 Rnds 24-25: Sc in each st around. (36sts for 2 Rnds)

If using, insert the safety eyes now. Recommended placement is between Rnds 15 and 16
approximately 8sts apart. The mouth and any other facial features can be embroidered now as well,
or they can be added once the apple is completed. See “Assembly Instructions” below for suggested
placements if adding the stitching now.

Firmly stuff and shape the apple and continue to do so as the pattern progresses. The indention
made in the top should remain indented when stuffing.

 Rnd 26: Sc in the next 2sts, sc2tog, [sc in the next 4sts, sc2tog] 5 times, sc in the next 2sts.
(30sts)
 Rnd 27: [Sc in the next 3sts, sc2tog] 6 times. (24sts)
 Rnd 28: Sc in the next st, sc2tog, [sc in the next 2sts, sc2tog] 5 times, sc in the next st.
(18sts)
 Rnd 29: [Sc in the next sts, sc2tog] 6 times. (12sts)
 Rnd 30: [Sc in the next sts, sc2tog] 4 times. (8sts)
 Sl st into the first st and fasten off leaving a long tail to close up the hole. Close the hole
with a tapestry needle stitching only through the front loops until the hole pulls nicely closed,
secure, and weave in the end.

Stem
Make 1

Using Color (B)

 Ch 8
 Row 1: Working in the back bar of the ch: Sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each ch
across. (7sts)
 Fasten off leaving a tail approximately 20+ inches (51+ cm) long to use later for shaping the
apple. Weave in the starting tail.

Leaf
Make 1 or more to attach to the apple (optional).

Using Color (C)

>Design Note: The first Rnd of the leaf will be worked on both sides of a chain.

 Ch 9
 Rnd 1: Working in the back bar of the ch: Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook (mark this as the
starting st) and in the next 6ch, [sc, ch 3, sc] in the next ch (>Design Note: This last series of sts
finishes off one side of the ch and completes the first st on the other side of the ch). Working
down the other side of the ch: sc in the next 7sts. (16sts + 3 ch)
 Rnd 2: Sc in the next st, hdc in the next st, dc in the next st, tr in the next st, 3tr in the
next st, dc in the next st, hdc in the next st, sc in the next st, [sl st, ch 2, sl st] in the ch 3
space at the top point, sc in the next st, hdc in the next st, dc in the next st, 3tr in the next st,
tr in the next st, dc in the next st, hdc in the next st, sc in the next st. (22sts + 2 ch)
 Sl st to the first st and fasten off leaving a long tail for attaching the leaf to the stem and
securing it to the apple (instructions given later in the pattern). Weave in the starting tail.

Bow
Optional

Using Color (E)

 Ch 4
 First side of the bow: 3dc in the back bar of the 4th ch from the hook, sl st in the same st.
 Second side of the bow: Ch 4, 3dc in the back bar of the 4th ch from the hook, sl st in the
same st.
 Fasten off leaving a long tail to wrap around the middle of the bow and stitch the bow to
the apple. Weave in the starting tail.
 Wrap the tail around the center of the bow 5-6 times or until the desired look is achieved.
Using a tapestry needle secure the wraps on the backside of the bow and attach the bow to the
apple in the desired location.

Cheeks
Make 2 (Optional)

Using Color (E)

 Rnd 1: 8sc in an adjustable (magic) circle. (8sts)

 Rnd 1 alternative: If preferred, ch2 and then 8sc in 2nd chain from hook. (8sts)
 Sl st to the first st and fasten off leaving a long tail to stitch the cheeks to the apple. Weave
in the starting tail.

Assembly
 Adding the leaf to the stem. If adding a leaf to the apple, using the finishing tail of the leaf
and a tapestry needle, stitch the bottom center of the leaf to the very bottom side of the stem
(the side with the tail).
 Once the leaf is attached to the stem, continue to weave the tail up the back center of the
leaf about ⅓ of the way up the leaf. Remove the needle but leave this tail as is until noted to
pick it up again later for further stitching.
The bottom intention in the apple.

 Shaping the apple & adding the stem & leaf. Using the tail for the stem and a longer
doll/upholstery needle, it’s time to shape the apple. Insert the needle into the top center
indention in the apple and out through the bottom center of the apple. (>Design Note: Make
sure that the leaf is sitting in the desired final position before shaping as it will be difficult to
adjust later.) Then insert the needle just a little over from where it came out the bottom and
back up through the top center again, making sure to pull the yarn with each pass so that an
indention forms in the bottom of the apple. Continue to repeat going up and down through the
apple in this manner until the desired shape is achieved. Secure and weave in the end.
 Securing the leaf to the apple. This step is optional, it tacks the leaf down to the top of the
apple a bit. With the tail from the leaf left earlier and a tapestry needle, tack the leaf down to
the very top of the apple. In the images, the leaf is tacked at about Rnd 6 at just the very
center of the leaf for a couple of stitches (moving the tail from where it was left earlier may be
necessary to achieve desired placement for tacking). More or less tacking can be done to achieve
the desired look.

 Adding the face (optional). If adding a face use Color (D) and a tapestry needle to stitch
mouth, eyelashes, eyebrows, and any other desired facial features. Add the cheeks and attach
the bow, if using. Suggested mouth placement (as pictured) is centered, two rows down from
the eyes, the edges of the mouth in the shape of a V with the top corners approximately 4sts
apart and each side about 3 Rnds long.
