ENCANTO CHALLENGE

In groups read about Encanto movie animals and use the information about them and
their adaptations to match (highlight) their possible ecosystem.

ANIMAL DESCRIPTION COLOMBIAN


ECOSYSTEMS

JAGUAR Jaguars are adapted, with SAVANNA


muscular limbs and large paws to WETLAND
climb trees, pad along the floor, TROPICAL FOREST
and even swim in rivers and DESERT
streams. They enjoy a good dip CONIFEROUS FOREST
and are strong swimmers. In fact, CORAL REEF
they typically live near water and
have a taste for aquatic creatures.

CAPYBARA Their pig-shaped bodies are SAVANNA


adapted for life in bodies of water, WETLAND
seasonally flooded territories. TROPICAL FOREST
Their toes are partially webbed for DESERT
paddling around, and their reddish CONIFEROUS FOREST
to dark brown fur is long and CORAL REEF
brittle—perfect for drying out
quickly on land.

TAPIR Tapirs live near water and are SAVANNA


capable swimmers and divers. In WETLAND
fact, they sometimes run to the TROPICAL FOREST
water to escape predators. DESERT
Splayed toes, four on each front CONIFEROUS FOREST
foot and three on each hind foot, CORAL REEF
help the tapir successfully
navigate through soggy
ground.The black on the front and
back with white or gray in the
middle is a form of camouflage
that breaks up the tapir's outline in
the shadows

COATI They have strong claws and long, SAVANNA

for foraging in crevices and holes TROPICAL FOREST
for food. Their thick, DESERT
semi-prehensile tails are used for CONIFEROUS FOREST
balance and often held erect CORAL REEF
above the body.

TOUCAN Long beak to reach out to the SAVANNA


places deep within the tree to grab WETLAND
eggs of other birds and dig cavities TROPICAL FOREST
for laying eggs. DESERT
Long curved beak to reach out CONIFEROUS FOREST
food easily and grab prey. CORAL REEF
Color of the feather helps them to
blend with their surroundings.
Sharp claws provide a good grip to
stand on trees.
