PROF. PRALAHAD SIR
PURPOSES OF VENTILATION DEVICE AND RETURN
AND INTAKE AIRWAY

Air in mine is flow to the working faces by the use

of Ventilation device such as brick stopping ,brattices, doors,
well air crossing aircrossing, pipe and regulator.
Purposes of Ventilation device is distributed air in
mine and control it. As well as avoid the leakage of air in mine.
INTAKE AIRWAY :- The passage from which fresh air is passed in
mine working with help of fan
RETURN AIRWAY :- The passage from which polluted air is taken
out from mine with help of fan
VARIOUS VENTILATION DEVICES

The various devices used for distribution and control

of air in mine are :-
 Ventilation stopping
 Aircrossing
 Doors
 Regulator
 Brattices Partition
 Air lock
VENTILATION STOPPING

 It should be made of incombustible material ( bricks or stones)

 Thickness of Ventilation stopping should be minimum 38 cm in bricks or
stone
 Cement is used for plaster to prevent leakage of air
 In coal mine stopping may be temporary or permanent
 Temporary stopping is done by Brattics clothes, rubber clothes, hang in
certain roadway
 Purposes of Ventilation stopping is intake and return airway
VENTILATION STOPPING
AIRCROSSING

 These are constructed where intake and return air cross

each other
 It constructed in place where it has long life.
 Ground should be free from geological disturbance.
 It should be leakage proof, fire proof, and have sufficient
cross section
 In gassy coal mine degree (1 and 2) should be explosion
proof.
AIRCROSSING
DOORS

 This are used on those road which are used for haulage or
travelling
 Ventilation doors must be arrange to close automatically
 With these purposes the frame of door so fitted that top
of a bend forward with direction of air pressure.
 The door should be opened against intake air so that the
air pressure keeps it close.
DOORS
REGULATOR

 It is a window of adjustable opening in bricks stopping

 The shutter of regulator can be lock in position to prevent tampering .
 Use for increasing the resistance to air flow
 It should be used on return side of district.
 A regulator can not be placed in haulage road.
 Purposes is to increase or decrease the flow of air
 Regulator has effect of reducing the air flowing in regulator spilt.
 At the same time increasing quantity of air flowing in unregulated
 If a return airway is common to two district and one of the district has
to be regulated the regulator must be placed in intake airway of split
to be regulated.
REGULATOR
BRATTICES PARTITION

 They are elected to flow the ventilating current

 Upto working faces in narrow heading.
 The roads in bye off the last connecting gallery or
roadway should be fitted with Bractices partition
 Useful only for limited length
BRACTICES PARTITION
AIRLOCK

 It is a set up of two door.

 One of them always shut, when other is open to pass
men,or trains and tubes.
 Airlock minimises leakage of air
 It is also require Where ventilation system is likely to
distribute by prolong opening of door.
 The CMR 2017 REG.153. says that airlock should be
provided between main intake and return.
 It should provide where pressure across the door is high
