THE PREAMBLE TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION

We the People  of the United States, in


Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure
domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the
general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and
our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United
States of America.
INSTRUCTIONS: Provide a visual representation and written reflection on the meaning of each
phrase of the Preamble, then complete the ACES writing.

1. in Order to form a more perfect Union

To unite and make things better for all of us who live in our country..

2. establish Justice

To make things fair and honest for all people.

3. insure domestic Tranquility
To make sure we all have a pleasant life and get along with our peers and neighbors.

4. provide for the common defence

To protect us from other people or countries who might try to harm us, as in war, and to help us if we
have been harmed.

5. promote the general Welfare

The citizens’ well-being would be taken care of to the best extent possible by a Federal government.
6. and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity

To protect our rights and freedoms and not let anyone take them away (being able to choose our
religion, to speak our opinions, to get together with our friends); for all people now and for future
generations.

The Preamble ACES Writing Assignment

ended response) explaining which one of the six parts of the preamble to the Constitution you
think is the most important. You must use at least TWO facts as evidence to support your
answer. Of course you may use more.

Preamble's purpose statements do not grant powers or confer rights; the substantive
provisions of the main body of the Constitution do so.
