ABSTRACT

This study entitled, “ Mathematical Proficiency of the Elementary and High School
Students during the 40 Hours Immersion ” was conducted on the month of April 1 to May 6,
2022 at selected municipalities and barangays of Masbate Province and Cebu City with a 11
identified respondents ( 6 Elementary and 5 High School students ), with the used of non-
random sampling technique and a convenience sampling technique method in which it is the
method used to collect the samples that are conveniently located around the researchers. The
researchers aims the to study the mathematical proficiency in Elementary and High School with
its major question as the backbone of the study that will determine the mathematical proficiency
of elementary learners based on the pre-test and post-test?; How many scores of the elementary
and high school students increased form pre-test and post-test?; What are the factors that affect
the learners in learning mathematics during 40 hours of immersion activity?. The data was
analyzed through the mean score and t-test and the result shows that the elementary performance
level is moderate from the pre- test while in the post- test is advance high. For the High School,
their performance in their pre-test was low but when it comes to their post-test the level is high.
For the t-test result of the pre-test and post-test of elementary and high school students is
statistically significant. The researchers recommend the following based on the findings
and conclusions of the study; to the school administrators, and also the DepEd, this study
revealed that students have a very poor knowledge on mathematics despite being in the higher
level of secondary education. This is a very concerning event, and although it might have been
caused by the pandemic and the shifts in learning mode, the researchers recommend that a more
extensive and convenient teaching should be employed to the students, to Students, we
recommend using various educational software for supplementary learning. These applications
are relatively easy to use and convenient for independent learning, to teachers, especially math
teachers, the researchers wanted to recommend that they should do an extensive assessment of
knowledge about their mathematics subjects on the students to know if they are already
knowledgeable or still need a thorough review of the math topics. We also recommend that they
should start integrating technology to their teaching style since it can produce better result with
efficient learning, and to the future researchers, the researchers wanted to recommend increasing
the population size of their future study. We recommend doing the activity with other content in
math or any other subject to assess its effectiveness for teaching and learning.
