1. Explain the important role of Chinese Mestizos and their ranks within the changing
Philippine economic and political landscape.
 There were 2 Mestizos referred before such as Spanish Mestizos and Chinese
Mestizos. Between the two, the Chinese Mestizos were legally acknowledged by
the public in Manila in 1571 during Spanish Colonial regime. They captured the
eyes of the public due to its thriving economic and trade transactions and increase
population that led to some disputes to the current time due to political standing
and contributive factors in which resulted to unequal treat between Filipinos and
Chinese. Despite of those things, the Middle class Chinese Mestizos used Manila
as their main domain of transactions with collaboration to the British in late
1760’s. This is also the reason why Manila was opened and coined to as “Pearl of
the Orient” because of high rise entrepreneurs and central trade that was used for
the economic and political relationship which resulted to variety of buildings.
2. Discuss the interplay of several factors that contributed to the changing landscape of
Philippine society and economy?
 The Philippines changes over time but the economic and the landscape of
different lands changed due to immerging economic needs. The Chinese Mestizos
play vital part in transaction as some of them branched out to different islands of
the Philippines. Ensuring the transaction to advance, they uses Manila as the main
port of economic trade as they build mini version in Ilo-ilo and Cebu. The rise of
economic pressure to the Philippines resulted to land changes such as the Manila
being a plain and now un noticeably land full of high commerce buildings. The
result was from a jealousy that was taken in a form that aids the wider spread of
its influence to the society.
