Activity 3

1. Examine the cause and effects of Cavite mutiny and how does it affect nationalism.
 There are a lot of contributing factors that affect the nationalism by the Cavite
mutiny, the beheaded of the GOMBURZA is one of those. Clearly the Cavite
Mutiny led to our Independence as Filipinos , we celebrate it during July 12 th.
Despite all of these, the history speaks for itself as of Cavite Mutiny happened.
This event happened because of unequal and injustice treatment of the Spanish to
the Filipinos. This was led from both different views from the Spanish’s
governance to the Filipino citizen. This include the conspiring of overruling the
government of Spain, dispute between arsenal and the native army, deprived
power to intervene in the government and school for the friars, active
participation of the Filipinos in secular movement and few other things. This are
the events before the patriots reform and call out for independence as we achieve
our legal freedom.
2. Explain the conflict between Spanish and Filipino secular priests.
 The conflict began from the difference between secular and regular priests.
Secular priest are under a jurisdiction in which a bishop handles them and does
not belong to any religious order. A bishop insisted for a visit in one of the
parishes that was being held by regular priests but they refused. Due to the lack of
secular priests, a decree was given in 1774 which indicates the transfer of
administration of parish to the secular priest. This was highly favored by the
Spanish in which regular Filipino priests resented because of unequal standing
and racial discrimination among the priesthood. Monsignor Pedro Pelaez started
the movement against them but died in an earthquake which led to GOMBURZA
to continue the action.
