Vanda Orchid Info

Vanda orchid plants bloom several times a year with 1 to 4 inch (3-10 cm.)
How long does it take for Vanda to mature?

Between six and twelve months

Once formed on the plant they will need to continue to grow and the seed will need to mature. This
process will take between six and twelve months on Vanda plants dependant on the parents.

They need at least 6-8 hours a day of this sun light. If you are considering putting them under a tree,
make sure that the canopy is not too thick, such as under a ficus Benjamin, because that will not allow
enough sunshine for Vandas.

Vanda, abbreviated in the horticultural trade as V., is a genus in the orchid family, Orchidaceae.
There are about 87 species, and the genus is commonly cultivated for the marketplace. This genus
and its allies are considered to be among the most specifically adapted of all orchids within the
Orchidaceae. Wikipedia
Scientific name: Vanda
Family: Orchidaceae
Kingdom: Plantae
Order: Asparagales
Subfamily: Epidendroideae
Tribe: Vandeae
Temperature range
Temperatures for most vandas should be warm; a minimum night temperature of 55° F is
recommended. Colder spells can be tolerated for a short time if it is not windy. Optimum
temperatures are 60° to 70° F at night, and a maximum of 95° F during the day.
For Vanda orchids, it is necessary to water frequently, reaching up to two waterings per day in the
hottest periods of the year. If we observe that their roots are whitish or acquire a silver hue, they
should be watered until they change color. Once they have changed color, wait a few minutes and
water again.
Flowers grow on long sprays and can be as small as two inches, but as large as five inches. Most
Vanda hybrids bloom once per year, usually in the summer months. Flowers should last
approximately four to six weeks, depending on your growing conditions.
