1. Do you like watching at home or cinema ?
Watching movies is an amazing activity to relax for many people nowadays. After a
hard-working day, what can be more satisfying than watching films and
concentrating with amusement on the plots? I like seeing films, too. Although I have
many film DVDs at home, I still prefer watching films at cinemas.
One of the biggest factors that makes me feel like watching films at cinemas is the
bigger screen and realer sound I can enjoy there. I have a TV which can play my
DVDs, but I do not have enough money to buy a modern and fashioned system of
projector and loudspeakers which is sold with an extremely high price at store.
Furthermore, even if I could afford it, I still would not feel as satisfied as in a cinema,
because I know that cinemas always invest their capital in developing the quality of
their films, so the images and sound in cinemas are usually perfect, and I do not
think that anyone can easily get such quality in his home.
Besides a higher quality of the films, a second factor that makes me attached to
cinemas is that I can take this as an opportunity to go out and get out of the confine
of my house. After an exhausting week with a lot of stresses that have strained on
me, time for resting is really invaluable for me. So I always wait for weekends to relax,
at night, I want go out and breathe the cool breeze of the night, and I often go to the
cinema to see a film so that I can effectively use the remaining time of freedom. This
is also a chance for me to get out of my house and enjoy a new wider space, interact
with people and be more positive.
The best reason for going to the movies is to participate with an audience in the
shared experience . Actually, I can invite my friends to my house to watch a film with
me, but I still do not think it is a great idea, because nowhere can we find as many
people watching the same movie as in a cinema. Moreover, when watching film in a
cinema, one can laugh, cry and even be scared about the films with people all around
him, he can talk freely with others about the film and the characters, which makes
the films even more interesting and more attracting than at home.
In short, watching films in cinemas is preferred than watching them at home
because of the above reasons. Today, cinemas are trying to improve the standard of
their films, many technologies are developed to make the viewers feel as real as
possible, and this makes watching films at cinemas an impossible-to-miss chance to
get.

2. A friend is going to take a summer job where she can meet new people. Three
jobs are suggested: a volunteer nurse, a tour guide and a sale employee at
bakery. Which one would be the best choice?
My friend is going to take a summer job where she can meet new people. There are 3
options that I am considering to advice her: a volunteer nurse, a tour guide and a sale
employee at a bakery.

The first option is being a volunteer nurse. Well, She is a kind person. If she works as
a nurse, she can help sick and poor people. She also can get some knowledge about
chemist to help herself and her family when they are sick. However, she may face to
some difficulties. Because she is a student in foreign university, she doesn’t have
much experience about medicine which may not be safe for patients. She also can
not meet new people who can be her friends. Moreover, being a volunteer doesn;t
help her get money to pay for her student life. so I don’t think this is a good choice.

The second option is working in a bakery. My friend really likes sweet cake, so if she
works is a bakery, she can eat many kinds of delicious cakes. In addition, she can get
a mount of salary to pay for rent house or fee. However, being a sale is a hard job.
She may be very tired because she has to stand a lot. Moreover, she works so hard
but just gets very little money. She meets some custommers and she can’t talk
much with them, so she can’t make more friends here. Therefore, I think she
shouldn’t work here.

Although being a tour guide makes her very tired because she has to travel a lot, this
is the best choice for her. She can visit many interesting places which help her have
wonderful experiences in her life. She also makes friends with many people around
the world. Moreover, she is studying about foreign language, so this is the chance for
her to practice speaking English with people from other countries. In addition, the
salary she gets is much more than being a sale in a bakery.

In short, I think being a tour guide is a best choice for her,

3. Your friend is going to England for a year and you want to buy her a going-
away
present. Three items are suggested: a camera, a English grammar book and a
sweater. Which one would be the best choice?

My friend is going to England for a year and I want to buy her a present. There are 3
options that I am considering : a camera, an English grammar book and a sweater.

The first option is a camera. She likes taking photos so much and if I give her a
camera, she can save her happy moments when travelling. However, a camera costs
me at least 1 million . It’s too expensive for a student like me. I think she can use her
smart phone to take photos instead of a camera. So this is not a good choice for me.

The second option is an English grammar book. She travels to England, so an English
book may be good for her because she can improve her English skill. However, She is
really good at English since she was 10, she had enough English grammar to go to
England, so I think a grammar book is not really necessary for her. Moreover, if I give
her a book, she may forget it easily when she finishes reading. So I think I will not
choose this present.

The third option is a sweater. She is going to England in November when the weather
is very cold, so I think this will be a good choice. She can keep warm with the soft
sweater. Whenever she wears it, she will remember to our friendship. Moreover, a
sweater costs me just 200 thousand dong. It is cheaper than a camera and is
suitable for a student like me.

In short, after weighting 3 options, I think buying my friend a sweater as a present is

a perfect choice.
4. A group of friends are going to celebrate the end of exams. Three locations
are suggested: a pool, a party club and a bowling station. Which would be the
best choice?

we are going to celebrate the end of exams. There are three locations that I am
considering : a pool, a bowling station and a party club.

The first option is a pool. If we hold our day in a pool, we may have an interesting
time because it’s summer time and we can enjoy ourselves , we can relax after a
hard exams. However, some of our friends can’t swim so swimming in a pool may
be dangerous to them. In additions, the pool is too crowded and the water is not
clean enough for whole my friend to swim. We can get some diseases such as
cough, flu, or sunburn. Therefore, I don’t think this is a good choice.

The second suggestion is in a bowling station. My friends like playing team games,
so if we hold our day in a bowling station, we will have much fun time. However, we
may have to waste time waiting for our turn because the station is too crowded.
Moreover , some of my friends don’t know how to play bowling, so they may be very
bored. In addition, playing bowling may make their hands hurt. So I think we
shouldn’t hold our day in a bowling station.

The third option is in a party club. Although this may costs us more money than in a
pool or bowling station , we have an unforgettable time. We can enjoy many kinds of
delicious food and drink. We also can sing or dance in a mini stage. After hard exam
days, we can relax freely. We can chit chat or play some interesting games, which
make us closer and get on well together.

So after considering 3 suggestions, I think we should celebrate our day in a party

club.
5. This Saturday and Sunday you are free and want to do something different
from your school days. There are 3 options : organise a family trip, a friends’
trip and a volunteer trip. which is the best choice ?

This Saturday and Sunday is my free time and I really want to go a trip to somewhere
for relaxing. I am considering 3 options: Organise a family trip, a friends’ trip or a
volunteer trip.

The first option is a friends’ trip. Travelling with friends can be incredible fun. It is
good for getting on well with my friends, and sharing experiences together. Even
though I spend a lot of time with my friends, travelling with them is different and a
way to strengthen a friendship. However, holidays with friends are not usually cheap.
Money always plays an important role. It is normal for everyone to have different
budgets and there needs to be a lot of compromise, from where you stay to where
you eat. This inevitably ( chac chan ) causes problems. Therefore, I don’t think this is
a good choice.

The second option is a volunteer trip. I can help unhappy people who live in poor
condition and need to be helped . I also can see the life is not as beautiful as I think.
When volunteering, I go to many interesting and new places, so it is also a chance to
get more other cultures of religions. However, I may be very tired and I am a student, I
don’t have much money to pay for the trip. I think I will not choose this option.
The final option is a family trip. Although travelling with my family sometimes makes
me not free, it help us closer . I usually live far away from my parents, so I miss them
so much. Family holidays are great occasion for my family to get relaxed. Only a
peaceful environment can help us to forget the tensions ( sự căng thẳng ) and
rejuvenate ( làm trẻ lại ) the mind and body to lead the life more actively and happily.
Moreover, I will not have to worry about the money when I travel with my family
because my parents often pay for the trip.
So after considering 3 options, I think I will organize a family trip.

6. One of your foreign friends is going to visit Vietnam and would like to know
which time of the year is the best for him. Which of the following would you
suggest: Spring, Summer, or Fall?

I’m thinking of a season that is the best for my friend when he visits Vietnam. There
are 3 options that I am considering : Spring, Summer and Fall.
The first option is summer. He may like summer in Vietnam because there are many
places for him to travel such as Sa Pa, beaches… where the weather is very nice and
pleasant. He also can take part in outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing or
camping. However, the drawback of summer is that it is too hot. He will be easy to get
tired and some diseases such as cough, flu, and fever.
The second option is fall. If he comes to Vietnam in fall, he will feel very comfortable
because the weather is very cool. Moreover, He will be impressed by milk wood pine
along the streets in Hanoi. This flower is very special because of its smell. However, It
often has heavy rain and all the streets are often full of water. Some places get flood all
fall. Therefore, if he wants to travel around Vietnam, it is very difficult.
Although Spring is sometimes wet but it is my best choice. It is not as hot as summer ,
so he will not worry about the bad weather. It doesn’t rain much in spring, so if he wants
to travel, he will not worry about the flood. Moreover, Spring is a beautiful season with
flowers blossom and interesting festivals. If he comes Vietnam in Spring, he will enjoy
Tet holiday or other festivals in my country.
So after weighing 3 options, I think my friend should come Vietnam in Spring.

7. Situation: You are having a birthday and many of your friends are invited. Three
locations are suggested: at home, in a restaurant, and in a karaoke bar. Which do
you think is the best place for the party?
I am going to have a birthday party and I will invite many of my friends. I am considering
where is the best place for holing d a party . There are in 3 options : in a restaurant, in a
karaoke bar or at home.
The first option is in a restaurant. Well, if I hold a party in a restaurant , we will
enjoy delicious and special dishes which are made by chefs. However, The cost of
food is very expensive and it is not suitable for students like me. In addition, The
restaurant is not large enough for all of my friends to dance or sing.
The second option is in a karaoke bar. I and my friends love singing so much, so if we
hold a party in a karaoke, we will have a chance to show off our voice. We also can
enjoy some snack or drinks while singing. However, We like to have more food to eat
.There are not many kinds of food for us in a karaoke bar ( just snack and drinks ).
Moreover, the cost of singing hours and drinks here are very expensive. For example,
we have to pay 100 – 150 thousand VND for an hour. A bottle of beer costs 50 thousand
dong while if I buy it in supermarket, we have to pay 15 thousand dong.
The third option – at home – is the best choice for me. Although we may be
tired because of making food for the party, we feel happy. This is the time for us to
show off our cooking. Therefore, we don’t have to pay much money on buying food
and drinks for the party. I will go to supermarket to get cheaper ones.
Moreover, my friend has a guitar, so we can sing and dance at my house. This will be
unforgettable time in my life.
In short, Holding my birthday party at home brings me so much fun. We can
both enjoy delicious food and save my money.
