RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter deals with the research methods used in the study. It
includes discussion on research design, respondents of the study including
sampling, data gathering instrument, data gathering procedure, and statistical
treatment of data.
Research Design
The primary purpose of this study is to determine the strategy
implementation of Small and Medium Enterprises in Batangas City. To attain
this purpose, the researchers used descriptive method of research in
conducting the study because this method is intended for the purpose of
gathering, analyzing, classifying, and tabulating data about the strategy
implementation of the respondents.
Respondents of the study

The respondent of the study are the 703 Small and Medium
Enterprises in Batangas city. The list was obtained from the head office of
Batangas City Hall. Using the Raosoft Calculator, the researchers determined
the accurate total number of respondents and came up with 249 respondents.
The study also used 1:1 ratio, which means one manager is considered for
every SMEs.
The researchers chose managers of Small and Medium Enterprises as
the respondents of the study to help them in decision making with regards to
their strategy implementation including Superordinate Goals (Shared Values),
Strategy, Structure, Systems, Staff, Style, and Skills since they are
knowledgeable enough on the information that this study requires since they
are responsible for overall business operations.
The researchers used sampling method. According to Hayes (2021) A
simple random sample represents the complete data set by selecting a tiny,
random portion of the total population, with each member having an equal
chance of being chosen. Raosoft Survey Tools is a robust set of over 15 tools
for database and file management of survey data collected using Raosoft
online survey software (Raosoft Home, 2011).

Data Gathering Instruments

The researchers used a research-made questionnaire to get the
primary data. A questionnaire is a series of questions for the purpose of
gathering information from the respondents. The questionnaire was
composed of two parts. The first part includes the respondents profile in terms
of number of employees, years of operation, capitalization and types of
products sold. The second part is the research-made questionnaire regarding
the strategy implementation of SMEs in Batangas City in terms of
Superordinate Goals (Shared Values), Strategy, Structure, Systems, Staff,
Style, and Skills. The researcher deviced the questionnaire as a primary
gathering instrument. The items for the questionnaire were based from the
internet websites with the bearing to the study to form the conceptualized
questionnaire items.
To enrich the content and ensure clarity of the items, the draft of the
questionnaires was presented to their thesis adviser, panel members,
statisticians to seek comments and suggestions through meseenger and
email. (ETO RIN PACONTINUE)
The items in the questionnaires were rated using the Likert scale with
four options, four (4) as the highest score and one (1) as the lowest score.
These shall be provided with equivalent verbal interpretation.
Table 1
Scoring and Interpretation
Response scale Mean Score Interpretation
4 3.50-4.00 Strongly Agree
3 2.50-3.49 Agree
2 1.50-2.49 Disagree
1 1.00-1.49 Strongly Disagree

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers obtained the related information needed in the present
study by consulting different instructions and professors. The researchers
searched for data relevant to the study from online research compendiums of
established institutions. Secondary data were then gathered from reliable
books, articles, journals, and electronic sources.

After the respondents accomplished the survey, the researchers tallied

and tabulated the answers and then gave it to the statistician for the date to
be analyzed and organized. After the consultation, the date were evaluated
and then followed by the analysis and interpretation.

Statistical Treatment of Data

The data that the researchers gathered from the questionnaires were
classified and analyzed to come up with the interpretations that determined
the strategy implementation of the SMEs. The following statistical tools were
used to interpret the data gathered from the response of the target
respondents of the study.

Frequency/Percentage. The study used this method to determine the

distributions of the respondents’ profiles which includes; number of
employees, years of operation, capitalization and types of products sold.
Weighted Mean. This was used to assess the strategy implementation
of the SMEs in the reference to the variables of McKinsey’s 7s Framework:
Superordinate Goals (Shared Values), Strategy, Structure, Systems, Staff,
Style, and Skills.
