This play was performed in the Park Charitable Trust in Queen's Park,
Invercargill. This was made in 2007 and the title of the play is The Comedy of Errors by
William Shakespeare.

Set in the Greek city of Ephesus, The Comedy of Errors tells the story of two sets
of identical twins who were accidentally separated at birth. Antipholus of Syracuse and
his servant, Dromio of Syracuse, arrive in Ephesus, which turns out to be the home of
their twin brothers, Antipholus of Ephesus and his servant, Dromio of Ephesus. When
the Syracusans encounter the friends and families of their twins, a series of wild
mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-seduction, the
arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and false accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and
demonic possession.

My favorite actor is the man playing Aegon, who's the merchant of Syracuse and
the father of the Antipholus twins. He is my favorite character since in Act 1 Scene 1,
when he was telling his story to Duke Solinus, I felt his sadness through his words and
expression. Some things he did that made his performance effective was his
storytelling, his articulations, the fluctuations in his voice, and his actions made me feel
his sadness in him.

The costumes were great. Duke Solinus’ clothes looked fancy, the bright yellow
coat and his black scarf was what seemed like a luxury only nobles such as a duke
would wear. Aegon’s clothes in comparison looked drab, he only had a gray shirt and
pants. However, It fit my image of what merchants usually wear in this time period.
These costumes helped me understand what place in society some of these characters
have, a duke wore bright and colorful clothes while a merchant wore plain monotonous
clothes.

The set is some foliage, greenery, a gate, and what I would assume is a
cardboard cutout of a house in the background. I can not say much about the lighting
since the lighting here is just the sun, it is fitting for the time period is all I can say. The
sound is clear enough for me to understand what they are saying, the transition music is
this collection of strings that do the job well in transitioning from one scene to the next,
the ending of Act 1 Scene 1 had a somewhat melodramatic theme to it and immediately
after that Act 1 Scene 2’s beginning had this jolly and joyous theme to its music. They
made sense for the play since it had an old-school sound to it.

Overall, I am impressed with the performance of the actors. They conveyed their
emotions vividly and expressed what they wanted to express. The costumes were great,
they showed traits of some of the characters. The set design is good enough for the
story, lighting was just the sun, and the sound design was good. I can’t say that this is
one of Shakespeare's best plays but I can say that it is good enough to watch in your
free time or you are interested in plays and Shakespeare’s works.
