Science Module 2 Concept of Atomic Number Led to the Synthesis of New

Elements in the Laboratory

What's More Activity

1.1 a.) 23994Pu + 42He ---> 24296Cm + 10n Cm is named after Marie and
Pierre Curie who had done extensive research on natural radioactivity.

b.) 25399 En + 42He ---> 256101 Mv + 10n Mv is named after Dmitri

Mendeleev.

c.) 20983Bi +5826Fe --- > 266109 Mt + 10n.

What I have learned

1. Why do scientists study and synthesize new transuranium elements in the

laboratory? What are theses of these elements?
- Studying current transuranium elements can help researchers predict the
properties of yet-to-be-discovered isotopes and elements, which can then
be used to design experiments to prepare and identify them.

What I can do
Explain why the atomic number is called the "fingerprint" of elements.

We know that human fingerprints is a feature that is unique to each and

have a difference individual. Atomic number is called fingerprint of
elements because when atomic number changes, number of protons in
the nucleus changes and so does the number of electrons. So to simply
say atomic number is unique for each element.

WHAT I HAVE LEARYLED

1. Polar bonds are formed when theres an unequal sharing of electrons

between atoms while non polar bonds are formed when there is equal
of sharing of electrons between atoms.

2. Electro negativity measures the tendency of an atoms in molecule to

attract shared electrons towards toward it self .

3.

4. Bonding electrons are divided evenly, while non bonding electrons stays to
the atom on which they are located.
