Man From Toronto More Like Man from the Suburbs

Netflix released the movie called “The Man from Toronto” on June 24, 2022. The movie

is categorized under the genre of Action. This film was directed by Patrick Hughes and produced

by Bron Studios, Sony Pictures, and Escape Artists. The cast that was chosen for this film

included many well-known actors like Kevin Hart and Woody Harrelson who is known for his

previous role in “Zombieland”.

The film begins with Kevin Hart, also known as Teddy Jackson, booking a cabin for his

anniversary. After forgetting to fix a printing error Teddy drove to the wrong cabin because he

could not read the address. Unfortunately for him he arrived at the wrong place at the wrong time

because he is greeted by several terrifying gentlemen who believe that he is the “Man from

Toronto”, a well-known torturer. This marks the start of several nail-biting scenes where Teddy

must nearly survive being killed while portraying himself as the Man from Toronto.

The plot begins with exposition which reveals Teddy promoting his fitness ideas on his

online class. However, they are all undoubtedly terrible ideas which is why everyone believes

that he is a screw up. To prove himself not incompetent, Teddy books a nice retreat at a cabin for

his wife on their anniversary. This marks the start of the rising action as Teddy finds himself

becoming the Man from Toronto due to a mistake because of his incompetence. This mistake is

what leads to the build up to the climax. However, there were other rising actions that were

required to obtain the climax. For instance, Teddy and the Man from Toronto join forces to

interrogate a man for information. This action is vital to the climax as the two battle other

assassins and torturers in a gym to survive. They need to survive these challenges for the falling

action because they must make sure that they stop a bomb from being detonated. In the

conclusion the two live out their own dreams together in peace.

There is one phrase that is repeated said throughout the movie which is “Where on the

deck my captain lies. Fallen cold and dead.” This phrase is a key component to the plot because

it is a response that Teddy reiterates to prove that he is the Man from Toronto. However, the first

time he is provided with this line he incorrectly responds , and the audience thinks that he has

been caught. Although Teddy was believed to be gone, he still managed to retain his cover, and

the plot continues. Later in the film he is tasked with responding with the exact same line and

this time it completely fools the opposition and this leads directly towards the climax.

The film as a piece overall was well directed with many plot twists. However, the film

was not one of the best movies to come from Netflix. Like I stated there were many plot twists,

however, it made the plot hard to follow and it led to a surprising disappointing climax.

Furthermore, the addition of new characters like the Man from Miami leads the audience to feel

as though these characters were used to fill holes in between the different scenes. This overall

confused the audience by making a non-streamlined plot.

In summary the film was an action backed movie with well known actors. Even though

the film had well known celebrities it was not a great movie. This is because the plot had too

many holes making it confusing and hard to follow. The directors of the film tried to fix this

issue by introducing new characters into the story to fill the holes. However, this action backfired

and it made the plot even more confusing than it already was. Therefore, the filmmakers fell

short of their goal to produce an action film with an easy-to-follow plot. Due to these reasons I

don’t believe that anyone should voluntarily watch this movie.
