1. How did the two rival factions of Katipunan-Magdalo and Magdiwang- come about?
 The two competing groups of the Katipunan originated as simple sangguniang balangay (councils).
Both were founded under Andres Bonifacio's guidance. The Magdiwang was created in Noveleta,
Cavite, on April 2, 1896, and the Magdalo in Kawit, Cavite, on April 3, 1896. The Kataastaasang
Sanggunian (Katipunan Supreme Council) raised the two branches to the level of Sangguniang
bayan (provincial councils) due to their rapid rise in membership, after which the two groups were
empowered to construct balangays under them and spread their influence. -Each party formed its
own regional administration, with its own leaders, armed forces, and "mutually accepted territories."
The rivalry was limited to the provinces of Cavite and parts of Batangas because these areas had
already been liberated, allowing revolutionaries to freely move and gather.

2. Who were the sources of the historical accounts? What were their roles in the
Katipunan?
 Women were allowed to join the Katipunan in 1893, and the first members were Gregoria de Jesus,
Josefa Rizal, Marina Dizon, and Angelica Lopez. They functioned as the guardians of the
Katipunan's crucial and private documents, and organized galas as fronts for the regular meetings
of the male members. The Katipunan had expanded throughout Manila by 1894. Ladislao Diwa-

fiscal. Deodato Arellano- The first Supremo of the Katipunan Deodato Arellano- The first Supremo
of the Katipunan Deodato Arellano- The first Supremo of the Katipunan Deodato Arellan Later, he
created his own triangle with Román Basa and Teodoro Gonzales, who would go on to become
president and councilor of the Katipunan supreme council, respectively. Diwa remained a councilor
the following year, and his appointment to the court of a justice of the peace in Pampanga province
aided the Katipunan's expansion into the countryside. Katipunan members in Bulacan, Tarlac, and
Nueva Ecija claim Diwa personally inducted them. Francisco Macabulos, who would go on to
become one of the most successful Filipino generals of the revolution, was one of the most well-
known.

3. Why did Andres Bonifacio declare the election results as null and void?
 The integrity of the election was called into question in Bonifacio's declaration voiding the results,
with charges that many of the ballots distributed had already been filled out and that the voters had
not done so themselves. -the convention's election was invalid, they drafted Acta de Tejeros, a
document outlining their arguments for rejecting the convention's outcomes. They then traveled to
Naik, where they drew up another contract, known as the Naik Military Agreement, resolving to
establish a government separate from and independent of that established at Tejeros. When the
Naik agreement was brought to Aguinaldo's attention, he ordered the arrest of Andres Bonifacio and
his brother, Procopio, for an incident at Indang and various complaints submitted to Emilio
Aguinaldo, most notably from Severino de las Alas and Jose Coronel. After being prosecuted for
treason by members of Aguinaldo's government's war council, the brothers were EXECUTED on
May 10, 1897.

5. How can the three accounts contribute to your understanding of the first Philippine
Republic?
 For me, the most credible version was the article "The Katipunan and the Revolution." Even though
the descriptions of events that occurred during the Tejeros Conference were brief and to the point,
they did not go far enough to explain what happened before and after the convention. It
communicates what needs to be communicated without using unnecessary words. The Seeds of
Discontent piece, on the other hand, provides an excellent description of what happened, but for
me, it focuses more on Andres Bonifacio's story and his presidential journey. For me, it was a
lengthy and detailed account of what had happened in the past, covering every detail of the incident.
Consider the Magdalo and Magdiwang factions' histories. When the two factions successfully
revolted in Cavite, competing faction leaders clashed over leadership of the opposing faction.
However, neither side was willing to kneel or allow the other to control the other, and as a result, the
rebels were defeated by Polavieja and the Spaniards.
