Review of Spanish Lesson on Present Tense

Present Tense
All verbs fall into 1 out of 3 categories when it comes to their endings in the infinitive

- AR (bailar)
- ER (comer)
- IR (vivir)

To make the present tense in Spanish you need to use the root/stem and then add on
the appropriate ending.
In order to make roots from infinitives, you need to take out their ending ie:

Then add the appropriate ending:

Pronoun Ending
Yo -o
Tú -as
Usted/él/ella -a
Nosotros -amos
Vosotros - áis
Ustedes/ellos/ellas -an

-ER Verbs How to Conjugate in Present Tense

Pronoun Ending
Yo -o
Tú -es
Usted/él/ella -e
Nosotros -emos
Vosotros - éis
Ustedes/ellos/ellas -en

-IR Verbs How to Conjugate in Present Tense

Pronoun Ending
Yo -o
Tú -es
Usted/él/ella -e
Nosotros -imos
Vosotros -ís
Ustedes/ellos/ellas -en
For most irregular verbs with stem changes, they are known as the boot verbs. The
nosotros and vosotros forms do not get spelling changes as seen in the verb dormir
which changes spelling from o  ue.

Yo Duermo Nosotros Dormimos


Tú Duermes Vosotros Dormis
Usted/él/ella Duerme Ustedes/ellos/ellas Duermen
