Modules Licensing
The following modules must be licensed to complete all the workshops in this course:
• Job Management
• Order Management
Audience
Prerequisites
To complete the workshops in this course, the necessary modules must be licensed and operating in your training
environment. For more information on the modules available, contact your Epicor Customer Account Manager.
It is also important you understand the prerequisite knowledge contained in other valuable courses.
• Navigation Course - This course introduces navigational aspects of the Epicor application's user interface.
Designed for a hands-on environment, general navigation principles and techniques available in two user
interface modes - Classic Menu and Modern Shell Menu. Workshops focus on each of these modes and
guide you through each navigational principle introduced.
• Knowledge Camp Course - This course provides a high level overview of the quote to cash flow through
the Epicor application. You begin with how to create a quote, process it as an order, and fill the order across
production planning and purchasing. The course also covers the manufacturing plan and shipment of parts
to a customer, as well as how to process invoices, enter cash receipts, and generate supplier payments.
Environment Setup
The environment setup steps and potential workshop constraints must be reviewed in order to successfully
complete the workshops in this course.
Your Epicor training environment, in which the Epicor demonstration database is found, enables you to experience
Epicor functionality in action but does not affect data in your live, production environment.
The following steps must be taken to successfully complete the workshops in this course.
1. Verify the following or ask your system administrator to verify for you:
• Your Epicor training icon (or web address if you are using Epicor Web Access) points to your
Epicor training environment with the Epicor demonstration database installed. Do not complete
the course workshops in your live, production environment.
Note It is recommended that multiple Epicor demonstration databases are installed. Contact
Support or Systems Consulting for billable assistance.
• The Epicor demonstration database is at the same version as the Epicor application. The
demonstration database is installed from the Epicor Administration Console using the "Add Demo
Database" command under Database Server. See Epicor ERP installation guides for details. If you are an
Epicor Cloud ERP customer (and have licensed embedded education), the demonstration database is
installed for you.
• Your system administrator restored (refreshed) the Epicor demonstration database prior to
starting this course. The Epicor demonstration database comes standard with parts, customers, sales
orders, and so on, already defined. If the Epicor demonstration database is shared with multiple users
(that is, the database is located on a server and users access the same data, much like your live, production
environment) and is not periodically refreshed, unexpected results can occur. For example, if a course
workshop requires you to ship a sales order that came standard in the Epicor demonstration database,
but a different user already completed this workshop and the Epicor demonstration database was not
restored (refreshed), then you will not be able to ship the sales order. If you are an Epicor Cloud ERP
customer see section below.
2. Log in to the training environment using the credentials manager/manager. If you are logged into your
training environment as a different user, from the Options menu, select Change User.
3. From the Main menu, select the company Epicor Education (EPIC06).
Note To refresh your Epicor training data, send a request that includes your site ID to
SaaSEdRefresh@epicor.com. Refreshing your training data may take up to 72 hours after the request is
received.
This course introduces job splits, a feature that allows you to move quantities and costs from a job in process to
a new job.
For more information on job splits, refer to the Application Help.
Business Scenario
Epicor Education (manufacturing company) receives a sales order from Dalton Manufacturing (customer) for 100
units of the rail frame part. The sales order is entered and job created for the required amount. Two days later
Dalton Manufacturing calls again and asks whether they could have 25 units of the rail frame part shipped as
soon as possible due to an urgent building project. The remaining quantity of 75 units would be due as scheduled.
As a result of the request from Dalton, the production manager at Epicor Education decides to split the job to
complete the 25 pieces ahead of the regular job schedule.
Job Entry
Use Job Entry to create and edit jobs. Job heading information, material, operations, and assembly information
is linked to each job through this program. Once you are satisfied with a job’s manufacturing process, you can
schedule the job so it is placed in the manufacturing queue at once.
Use the tree view to review and edit the aspects of the current job. In the tree view, double-click the icons for
the nodes to display sheets with specific information about the job.
From the Actions menu, select Get Details to quickly add the bill of materials and bill of operations information
for a part. You can also enter methods of manufacture (MOM) directly to the job through the Engineering
sheets. You can then use these methods for other jobs.
Jobs can also be part of a project. A project is a collection of jobs created to complete a larger task. Use the fields
on the Project sheet to add the current job to a project.
Tip For more information on projects, refer to the Job Management > Job Entry > Project topic in the
Application Help.
Menu Path
Navigate to this program from the Main Menu:
• Production Management > Job Management > General Operations > Job Entry
• Service Management > Expense Management > General Operations > Job Entry
• Service Management > Project Management > General Operations > Job Entry
• Service Management > Time Management > General Operations > Job Entry
Split Job
Use the Split Job command to divide one job into multiple jobs. The part quantities on these split jobs are then
manufactured separately.
Split Job Entry allows you to move pieces and costs from a job in process to a new job. It divides one job into
two jobs relative to the split quantity.
Once a job split occurs and the data is saved, there is no an undo process, which makes this routine a real time
transaction.
The split quantity can be manufactured for stock, a sales order, or job material. It also retrieves associated reference
designators from the specified source job.
The program sheet includes the following sections:
• Split Job - This section includes general split job parameters.
• Split Target - This section includes a split job purpose (target) and details.
Use Split Job Entry if a customer needs part of their sales order to be finished before the rest of the sales order.
You can also use this program to create a job for inventory; this allows you to separate overrun quantities you
may have on the original job.
Important Split Job Entry can only divide jobs that produce a single part. If a job produces two or more
parts, you cannot split this job.
1. You fully complete first two operations (Opr1, Opr2) for Part-B (job 2000 - report 10 units against
each operation).
2. You report only 5 units against the third operation for Part-B (job 2000 - report 5 units against
operation Opr3).
Logic At this point you have fully completed 5 units of Part-B.
There are routine cases where a job split process provides a viable solution. Other options within the Epicor
application that provide a similar result are discussed as alternatives to the splitting process.
Expediting Parts
Customers often ask to fully or partly expedite their ordered parts. A job split is effective if the job is currently in
production with some operations completed and others pending.
In this case, in the Split Target section, select Order Release. The Order and Line/Rel fields automatically
activate.
• By default, the Order and Line/Rel fields populate with the previously linked order, line, and release. Change
or modify these fields as needed. Splitting is useful if extra setup and tear down is required to expedite pieces
on the original job.
• As an alternative, expedite the original job without using the Split Job process. This can be a better choice
if the remaining parts are complete soon.
When a job is split, there are job cost implications as the new job acquires some of the costs incurred on the
original job. These costs are based on the quantities completed and reported on the original job prior to the split
and the quantity split to the target job.
Example Assume a requested quantity of 100 pieces on the original job and a split quantity of 25 to the
new job. Operation 10 on the original job is the only operation with labor activity and the 100 pieces are
reported complete. Materials are fully issued to the original job prior to the split. After the split, the original
job has a completed quantity of 75 and the target job a completed quantity of 25.
In this case, same as the quantities, the costs are split in the proportion of 75% and 25% respectively.
Example Assume a requested quantity of 100 pieces on the original job and a split quantity of 25 to the
new job. The original job has four operations.
After the split, the original job has a completed quantity of 77.25 and the target job has a quantity of
25.75.
In this case, both jobs split the excess overrun pieces produced by operation 10 and 20. The original job
keeps 75% of the quantities reported on operations 10, 20, and 30, while the split job acquires
approximately 25%.
This is not the case for operation 40, where only 50 pieces were reported. After the split each job gets 25,
which completes the operation on the new split job.
Costs, however, do not necessarily reflect the same 75% and 25% split, if the started operations are not
fully completed.
In this example, labor and burden costs split approximately in a 78% and 22% ratio due to operation 40
not being fully completed.
Dalton Manufacturing has placed an order for 100 units of frame rails (part DCD-100-SP). As the same order for
the same quantities and the same product was already received in the past, you decided to duplicate this order
rather then create a new one. In this workshop, duplicate the 5049 sales order and create a new job for 100
units of part DCD-100-SP.
3. In the Copy Order window, select the Copy Only Open Releases, Renumber Releases, Preserve All
Lines, and Ready To Process check boxes.
4. Click OK.
5. From the Sales Order field, record the new sales order number ____________.
6. In the Need By field, select the date two weeks from today.
7. In the Ship By field, select the date two days before the Need By date.
8. Click Save.
9. To the You have changed the following fields message, click Yes.

2. In the Order Job Wizard, Order Lines section, select the line for part DCD-100-SP.
Dalton Manufacturing calls the next day and requests 25 units to be shipped as soon as possible. The remaining
quantity of 75 units would be due as scheduled. To meet the customer request, the production manager decides
to split the job and complete the 25 pieces ahead of the regular job schedule. In this workshop, split the job
created in the Workshop – Create a Sales Order and Job.
