Preposition means the words that we use to connect two

sentences. A preposition is important when we write a
paragraph because we can make paragraphs creative and
shorter. As an English subject leader, I like to introduce you to
some of the main conjunctions that we learn in day-to-day life

1. And

(1) To add the same ideas together

Ex) I like to play volleyball.
I like to play cricket.
 I like to play volleyball and cricket

(2) To add continuously happening things

Ex) I got up early in the morning
Then I went running
 I got up early in the morning and then I
went running
2. But

(1) To add contrasting(different) ideas such as

Ex) I’m not great at Sinhala subject
I got high marks on the term test
 I’m not great at Sinhala subject but I got high marks on
the term test.

3. Because

(1) To give a reason for the action

Ex) My mom scolded me
I broke the window
 My mom scolded me because I broke
the photo frame.

4. So

(1) To give the result of an action

Ex) I’m not well

I didn’t go to school
Shall we go to the beach?
 would you like to play tennis or shall
we go to the beach.
