Business
Case

Business Case
• As a sign of an environmentally conscious approach, Aesop has set the goal of reducing the consumption of
resources, especially water.

• It is a step to become more climate neutral/eco friendly in the next few years.

• A pilot project not only with the aim of reducing water consumption, but also as a research project to
become an even more environmentally friendly company after its implementation.

• In addition, Aesop will be equipped with a totally new type of green marketing design for its industry.

Business Case

Project
Objectives

Project Objectives
• The project goal is to build a water treatment plant (Originally gray water treatment, Alternatively
rainwater harvesting) within the construction period and a budget of no more than ___ EUR for the site in
London.

• In recent years, it has become increasingly important to address sustainability related milestones in many
large projects, brands and industries, and this development is still ongoing. These projects and the green
marketing that comes with them generates a lot of beneficial attention. Not to mention the annual savings
in the company through the use of the alternatively treated water. In addition, the number of customers
will increase as a result of this project.
Project
Objectives • The growing desire of the population to live and consume as climate neutral as possible is supported by
these technologies in your stores. Knowing that the current common water treatment plants, have been in
use for more than 20 years and their reliability and efficiency have increased dramatically, offers a wide
range of applications and makes the investment future proof.

Why grey water treatment
is not a good option in London
 No water analytics available, reference values only available from residential homes / Not feasible before construction start
 Assumption: Essential oils will clog the hollow fiber membrane quickly and cause low flow  frequent maintenance
 Analytic of FOG, BOD, COD, TSS, TN, TP needed
 Preconnection of a grease separator will be needed

 No basement available, but a gravity flow to the collection tank is needed

 Alternative 1: Outdoor underground tank
 space availability

 Alternative 2: Second pump e.g. compact jack pump

 maintenance intensive
 additional approx. 3.000 Eur
 lack of indoor space
 noise disturbance

 Strong odor disturbance during maintenance

 Using the greenhouse as a pre-filter system would disturb the aesthetics of the store

 BioMembrane system: main system component 5.000 Eur

 Fixed-bed ractor: main system component 3.000 Eur
Why rain water harvesting
is a good option in London
 In London it rains on average 109.4 days a year. Average Rainfall London | Onaverage.co.uk
 Large roof area available
 No basement is needed
 Less pollution of water
 Less health risks
 Submurged pump with very little noise disturbance (similar to Waschingmachine)
 No odor disturbance
 Can be used directly for irrigation after pre-filtration
 Simpler and cheaper technology

 Irrigation water quality system: Main system component 2.500 Eur

 Drinking water quality system: Main system component 3.000 Eur

Lovely thing to learn from water: Adjust yourself in

every situation and in any shape. But most
importantly, find your own way to flow.
