The KKK and the “Kartilya ng Katipunan”

Who is Emilio Jacinto, exactly? a persistent query from the readers. After I read

and analyzed the Kartilya ng Katipunan, I realized that Emilio Jacinto was the sole author

of it and a key supporter of the K.K.K. which stands for or is officially known as the

Kataastaasan, Kagalanggalangang Katipunan ng Mga Anak ng Bayan. When translated

into English, it means the Supreme and Honorable Association of the Children of the

Nation. Emilio Jacinto created the Kartilya as a reform for the Katipunan and even though

he wasn’t the supremo and leader of the Katipunan at that particular time, he still

managed to get under Andres Bonifacio’s skin and made his Kartilya noticeable and

recognized by every other reader, especially to their recruits. But what does this Kartilya

comprises? Is it relevant to be studied by students like me in Philippine History?

The recruits were supposed to receive the Decalogue. But after reading Jacinto's

Kartilya, Bonifacio concluded that Emilio's work was far more superior to his. The

Decalogue was later authored by Andres Bonifacio after being reviewed by Emilio Jacinto,

who is regarded as the heart and mind of the Katipunan. Fourteen lessons make up the

Kartilya ng Katipunan, which served as the foundation for the Katipuneros in 1896 when

they rebelled against Spanish rule in the Philippines. Kartilya ng Katipunan served as a

guide for newcomers to the organization as well as a philosophy that represented moral

and patriotic principles. The Kartilya is about "guiding principles" and teachings, telling

the recruits how they should act morally correct and abide by the principles their

organization follows. I think the Kartilya ng Katipunan was crucial at the time because it

affected the way other Filipinos as well as Katipunero thought and behaved. The Kartilya

addresses a variety of topics and facets of a person's life. Some of the principles that are
shown in the Kartilya include justice, equality, and respect for women, righteousness,

honor, and self-sacrifice, faith in God, service to one's country, fellow citizens, and family.

I believe that the Kartilya ng Katipunan plays a vital role in Philippine history

nowadays. It is because It teaches us how to fight the way our character develops into

something dreadful. This will serve as a lesson to promote the well-being of every living

Filipino citizen today. This stimulating information can also be a way for our country to

promote the term unity and be able to secure peacefulness and independence. To

conclude, the Kartilya these days represents the strength and unity of the nation at its

core. Kartilya unites the Filipinos by encouraging their patriotism and is there to remind

and teach us about proper and tranquil globalization processes. Hence, people's rights,

such as equality and exercising the best course of conduct toward others, should still be

taken into account while the country's culture and traditions are not diminished in order to

show genuine respect for it.
