LOCAL/FILIPINO TEST

Panukat ng Ugali at Pagkatao (PUP)

The Panukat ng Ugali at Pagkatao (PUP) had its origins in the early 1970s when Dr. Virgilio G.
Enriquez attempted to develop a Filipino exam that measured Filipino-oriented qualities,
behaviors, and attitudes, primarily to uncover creative talent, the primary purpose of a National
Science and Development Board (NSDB)-sponsored research project. Following its
presentation at the International Conference on Personality Assessment in 1981, the ensuing
test, the Panukat ng Ugali at Pagkatao (PUP), underwent further development over the following
several years. The PUP currently consists of 160 items, all of which have English translations.
Of these, 141 items are arranged into 24 trait scales, two validity scales, and 19 additional items
are intended to measure culturally relevant behaviors and attitudes that can be used as criterion
variables in personality research, such as behavior related to drinking and gambling. The test
may also be given using translations into Ilocano, Cebuano, Bicolano, Ilonggo, and
Kapampangan.
