• The project of Sikolohiyang Pilipino A. MODELS OF DATA COLLECTION
o Development of Indigenous Psychology • Self-orientation Model –
o Utilization of authentic research methods o the data collector and contributors relate to the other
o Creation of authentic and appropriate social only to the extent of waiting until the other stops

e.g., laboratory-based studies of memory.
B. RESEARCH APPROACHES Communication is not taking place between them

power in favor of data collectors who appear to define

traditional i.e., using scientific methods and ensuring that o the participants in the data collection are reacting to
they are culturally appropriate. what is currently taking place between them,
• Sikolohiyang Pilipino utilizes and borrows concepts from e.g., verbal conditioning research; yet the capacities of
both the modern and traditional cultural systems. both data contributors and collectors to construe are
assumed to be unimportant and are ignored.
A. APPROACHES IN THE DEVELOPMENT
&UTILIZATION OF INDIGENOUS VIEWPOINTS • Mutual-orientation Model –
• Indigenization from within basis: the indigenous direction: o the data collector and contributor give something to,
outwards culture-as- source and gain something from the data collection,
• Indigenization from without basis: the exogenous direction: e.g., Piaget’s early research on conservation.
inwards culture-as-target Indigenous psychology research uses this model as
the cultural researcher is a culture bearer himself.
INDIGENIZATION FROM WITHOUT
• Content indigenization translation of imported materials B. SANTIAGO-ENRIQUEZ RESEARCH MODEL
• Theoretic indigenization • RESEARCH-RESEARCHEE RELATIONSHIP MODEL
• Indigenization as strategy o Scale of the Researcher (Iskala ng Mananaliksik) –
• Culture assimilation ▪ These are methods used by the researcher in
▪ happens when two culture or generating data that are tried and tested and are
groups of people influence one culturally sensitive and appropriate in doing
another research with Filipinos.
– indigenous versions of imported systems o Scale of the Relationship or Interaction between
the Researcher and the Researchee (Iskalang
INDIGENIZATION FROM WITHIN Pagtutunguhan ngMananaliksik at Kalahok) –
▪ The level of interaction between the researcher
• Identification of indigenous concepts, methods, and the researchee significantly determines the
theories quality of data obtained.
• Semantic elaboration (meaning of words)
• Indigenous codification re-codification (process of
arranging according to plan)
• Systematization/explication of implied theoretical
frameworks (process of analyzing)
• Application/use
