MODULE 2: UNPACKING THE SELF

CHAPTER 8: THE SPIRITUAL SELF

Do you believe in a Supreme Being? If yes, what made you believe that there is a higher

being? If No, why not?

"He who doubts God's existence, doubts his own existence."

Being raised in a Christian family, I thought that when I first began to believe in God, it

was because of my religion and also because other people had told me to. But as I get older and

deal with more difficulties in my life, I can now clearly see why I'm determined to continue

believing in him. There are times when I feel like my life is a complete mess, but God gave me a

miracle, and even though I cannot see him with my own two eyes, I can see and feel him with

my heart. I'm confident that he heard my prayers and that he was the one who assisted me

through good and bad times.

Moreover, science would say that no lasting scientific evidence of God's existence has

been found, but I disagree with this. Everything around us and even our own existence is living

proof that God really exists. An event cannot cause itself in our finite universe, and if there

were no first cause, there would be no repercussions. So, the primary cause is God. I concur

with this view of cause because I think that God is the source of all creation and that our

existence could not have arisen by accident in our finite world.

To sum up everything, I highly believe in the existence of a supreme being. Everything

that has happened and continues to happen in the world, including things we cannot see with
our own eyes, has led me to believe in the existence of a higher being. As I started to find the

real meaning and purpose of my existence and go beyond the physical realities of life, I found

my spiritual self, and because of that, nothing can alter my belief and faith in God.

There is a saying that "to see is to believe," but I believe that if you strongly feel

something, you must also believe it—just as I feel and believe that God exists. Like the COVID-

19 virus and even our brain, there are things that we cannot see but nonetheless believe to be

real. There's no need to argue the reality of God's existence. We can just believe he's real. If we

believe in him, nothing will be lost; in fact, if everyone believes in him, everything will be

alright. At least we won't regret our decision to believe in God when the end arrives and we

realize he really exists.
