Experiment 3 Sieve Analysis Test
Experiment 3 Sieve Analysis Test
1.0 OBJECTIVE:
The test is to determine the particle size distribution of the coarse and fine aggregates.
2.0 THEORY:
This experiment is carried out to determine a good distribution of aggregate by using sieves and
comparing the result obtained with BS 410. The plotted distribution curve can give a clear picture of
the quality of different sizes of aggregates. A good distribution curve must be an “Ideal Fuller Curve’.
a. The sieve analysis determines the gradation (the distribution of aggregate particles, by size,
within a given sample) in order to determine compliance with design, production control
requirements, and verification specifications.
b. The gradation data may be used to calculate relationships between various aggregate or
aggregate blends, to check compliance with such blends, and to predict trends during
production by plotting gradation curves graphically, to name just a few uses. Used in
conjunction with other tests, the sieve analysis is a very good quality control and quality
acceptance tool.

RESULT:
Analyze the result obtained by drawing the distribution curve in the graph given. Determine the various
zone of aggregate with the analyses result and compare it with Grading Standard MS 7.4.
