COVA INGRID-ANDREIA-IRIS,

GR.I, AN I, ASISTENȚĂ SOCIALĂ

JOKER- MOVIE
Joker is a 2019
American psychological thriller film
directed and produced by Todd
Phillips, who co-wrote the screenplay
with Scott Silver. The film, based
on DC Comics characters,
stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker and
provides an alternative origin
story for the character. Set in 1981, it
follows Arthur Fleck, a failed clown
and stand-up comedian whose descent
into insanity and nihilism inspires a
violent counter-cultural revolution
against the wealthy in a
decaying Gotham City.
In 1981,party clown and aspiring stand-up
comedian Arthur Fleck lives with his mother,
Penny, in Gotham City.
Arthur suffers from a medical disorder that
causes him to laugh at inappropriate times,
depending on social services for medication.
Arthur is seen scribbling in a notebook; although the
page features the header "Jokes," the sentiment
scrawled out in increasingly large letters at its bottom
isn't particularly funny. "The worst part about having
a mental illness is, people expect you to behave as if
you don't.”
He wants to be recognized and respected by
others. Disease is not a reason to humiliate
and hurt a person.
After a gang of delinquents attacks Arthur in an
alley, his co-worker Randall gives him a gun for
protection. Bad idea because he wants revenge.
On the subway, still in his clown makeup, Arthur is beaten by three
drunken Wayne Enterprises businessmen; he shoots two in
self-defense and wounds the third before pursuing him off the train
and executing him on the stairs. The killings are condemned by
billionaire mayoral candidate Thomas Wayne, who calls those
envious of more successful people "clowns."
He begins to see the
murdered as a reason
to stand out in the
world.

He begins to think
that killing is funny,
and his illness gets
worse.
Arthur pursues a relationship with his neighbor,
single mother Sophie Dumond, and invites her to
his upcoming stand-up routine at a nightclub.
The fact that Arthur discovered that he had been adopted and that
his adoptive mother was ill with an illusory disease and allowing
her boyfriend to hurt her and Arthur, made Arthur kill his own
mother by suffocation . After this he began to smoke calmly as if
nothing had happened.
Arthur is invited to appear on Murray's show due to the unexpected
popularity of his comedy routine's clips. As he prepares, Arthur is visited
by ex-colleagues Randall (the one who slandered him and gave him the
gun,) and Gary. Arthur murders Randall, but spares Gary for treating him
well in the past.
Before the show goes live, Arthur requests that Murray introduce him
as Joker, a reference to Murray's previous mockery. Arthur walks out to
applause, but starts telling morbid jokes, confesses to the train murders,
rants about how society abandons the downtrodden and mentally ill, and
berates Murray for mocking him on the previous segment.
When Murray criticizes him and threatens to call the
police, Arthur shoots him twice on live television,
killing him. He is arrested for murder as riots break out
across Gotham.
Why did he choose to
kill him?

Because people didn't

know how to
empathize with him!
They turned a sick
man into a murderer.
Rioters in an ambulance crash into the police car
carrying Arthur, freeing him; he stands atop the car,
dances to the cheers of the crowd, and smears blood on
his face in the form of a smile.
-What is it like to live a
meaningless life in which
no one understands you?
-What would it be like
not to have control over
your mind and others to
take advantage of your
weakness and humiliate
you?
Why did I choose this movie?
I chose this movie because:
-highlights the problems of a corrupt
society,
-emphasizes how discrimination can
change a person,
-prove that people no longer know how
to be human,
- focuses on how a person's past can
affect their present and future.
"Joker" is about the impact we can have on the lives of the people
around us. One disapproval brings another. A slap brings a fist.
Contempt brings a curse. And all together it means hate. A feeling
that we feel more and more present around us. And it's not about
the world overseas, it's everywhere.

ANSWERS
Arthur suffers from a medical disorder that causes him to laugh at
inappropriate times.
He dreams of becoming a stand up comedian.
He is from Gotham City.
"The worst part about having a mental illness is, people expect you to
behave as if you don't.”
He killed them out of self-defense.
His colleague gave him the gun to protect himself from other people despite
the fact that he knew he was mentally ill.
Gary has always been nice to Arthur.
His mother lied to him all his life not telling him he was adopted and let his
boyfriend abuse him.
Joker is the name Murray used during a show in which he made fun of
Arthur with a video from the sand-up clubs he went to.
The people who released him were people who also felt marginalized by
society and helpless and those who considered Arthur's actions to be
justified. Arthur did not kill anyone who was good and led a decent and
clean life. He killed people who did not know how to respect him and who
repeatedly injured him.
