MABBUN - Module 5 Environmental Awareness and Protection
MABBUN - Module 5 Environmental Awareness and Protection
Assessment:
ACTIVITY 1
TO PROTECT YOUR COMMUNITY FROM THE ILL EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE,
ILLUSTRATE CREATIVELY ACTION POINTS THAT YOU CAN DO TO ENSURE SAFE,
CLEAN, AND FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT.
Climate change is a concerning and pressing problem in our world today and I would like to
share my ideas in order to protect our community from the ill effects of climate change . In
order to ensure a safe, clean and friendly environment we must learn how to properly handle
our wastes and other garbage. We should also know how to replace trees that we used and
lastly we must be aware of the products that contribute to the continuous destruction of our
ozone layer that result to a severe climate change .
• Reusable bags are a great way to reduce the amount of single-use plastic bags that
are thrown away.
• When you go out, you may choose to walk or ride a bicycle to your destination.
• In order to keep waste from flying around your area, tie up your garbage bags.
• You can save money by growing your own vegetables if you have the space or a
backyard to do so.
• Use rainwater to water your plants to save money on irrigation costs.
ACTIVITY 2
AS AN NSTP STUDENT-TRAINEE, PREPARE A LETTER OF APPEAL TO CONCERNED
AUTHORITIES IN THE ATTEMPT TO LOOK FOR SOLUTIONS TO STRENGTHEN
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS AND PROTECTION IN THE COMMUNITY. BELOW IS A
TEMPLATE THAT YOU CAN USE FOR THE SAID PURPOSE.
On behalf of my fellow citizens in the Cagayan Valley, I'd like to share my thoughts on what
I've observed in their daily routines. To begin, strict recycling and waste management, as
well as a healthy and safe environment, must be implemented. Plastic bags, plastic straws,
and other items that we all know the rest of the country has always advocated are still
being used in our own small village in Imus, Cavite. Because of our strict policy, our
community could serve as a model for other provinces to follow. In addition, I believe that
incentives should be provided to those places that are willing to adopt recycling as a matter
of course, and vice versa.
Recycling, reducing the use of plastic, and properly disposing of garbage are all small steps
toward a cleaner environment. By working together, we can make this happen. We and our
children deserve a better environment, and you can be sure that I will do everything I can
to help us get there.
Sincerely,
Katrina kate P. Mabbun

REFLECTION
AS A STUDENT, WRITE YOUR REFLECTION ABOUT OUR TOPIC, ENVIRONMENTAL
AWARENESS AND PROTECTION
Problem
An environmental profile issued by the Batangas Environment and Natural Resources stated that
solid waste generation, collection and disposal were the most pressing issues. Solid waste
segregation and collection are only available in urban Barangays I through IV in Calatagan in the
province of Batangas. Other barangays' waterways are polluted as a result of improper solid waste
disposal. Talisay and Balibago, two rural coastal barangays, were found to have poor water quality
due to improper solid waste disposal by the MAO.
Research Methodology
For the study, the researchers traveled to Calatagan, Batangas to conduct it. Verde Island Passage,
Pagapas and Balayan Bays, and the South China Sea to the north, south, east, and west (CLUP 2001-
2010). Twenty-seven of the city's 25 barangays are along the coast. There were two coastal
barangays chosen for their high population density: Talisay and Balibago, which are located along
creeks.
Findings
However, the majority are unaware of the laws and regulations governing effective solid waste
management. The majority of them have a pessimistic view of the environment. Residents,
particularly those in the barangay's interior, burn their garbage for convenience despite national
and municipal policies on efficient solid waste management. They also dump trash on the banks of
rivers and creeks, resulting in a buildup of waste.
Conclusion
The methods used to manage solid waste are inversely related to the total monthly income of the
family and environmental consciousness. Environmental perception and knowledge, on the other
hand, are related to solid waste management techniques. Education and household size are
inversely related to solid waste management practices in Barangay Talisay, but are positively
related in Barangay Balibago.
Recommendation: The Calatagan local government should consider these elements when designing,
improving, and implementing its solid waste management and coastal resource management plans.
Similarly, the findings of the research lead to the following recommendations:
The public's ignorance of national and local regulations governing effective solid waste
management should be acknowledged and used to motivate local governments to step up their IEC
efforts. Composting is the most efficient method of disposing of garden waste in both barangays.
Additionally, this system will regulate the burning of garden waste and other debris within the
barangay. Increasing the number of trash collection locations in this area would also help to reduce
the practice of burning. Local residents, on the other hand, are eager to sell their recyclable and
reusable garbage. Thus, the LGU should collaborate with waste management companies and
recyclers to directly purchase plastic bags and wrappers that are currently discarded legally and
illegally.
