Dear Parents and/or Guardians,

The Grade Seven Team is excited to be taking grade seven students to see a private
screening of Avatar: The Way of Water on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Galaxy
Cinema. The film is rated PG-13. Students are encouraged to attend the screening, but
participation is not required.

In addition to being a great way for students to celebrate a great start to Grade 7, this
movie has curricular ties to Grade 7 Science and Social Studies. In Science, we have been
investigating ecosystems and plants, and this movie invites viewers to imagine what
ecosystems may look like on alien planets. In Social Studies, students are learning about
Canada’s early relationships with Indigenous Nations, and this movie invites viewers to
imagine what this might look like on an interplanetary scale.

The cost of the trip will be $12, inclusive of admission and transportation to and from the
event. This fee can be paid for on SchoolCash Online. If payment for the trip may be an
issue for some families, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher. Concession will
be available for purchase at the theater. As such, students are encouraged to bring money
for theater concession. Below is the schedule for the screening. Costs for the concession
can be found on the second page of this letter:

8:45 – buses leave Lakie, transportation to Galaxy Cinema

9:30 – 1:00 – Screening of Avatar: The Way of Water
1:00 – 1:30 – transportation back to Lakie
