NAME: GRANT KYLE DE GUZMAN DATE: APRIL 2, 2022

SUBJECT: ART APPRECIATION

ASSIGNMENT NO.12

QUESTION: 1. What is appropriation in art? How is the this being achieved?

2. Is appropriation of art legal and ethical? Support your answer.
3. How does appropriation in art differ from copying art??
ANSWER:
1. 1. Appropriation in art and art history refers to the practice of artists incorporating
pre-existing items or images in their work with little or no alteration. In the
history of the arts, appropriation has played a crucial role (literary, visual, musical
and performing arts).
2. Appropriation can refer to taking someone else's ideas, pictures, symbols, sounds,
or identities. Many claim that advancement in art, music, and architecture would
be impossible without taking into account significant historical artistic advances.
Appropriation is ethically allowed at times and not at others.
3. Taking ownership of something is what it means to "appropriate." Appropriation
artists purposefully duplicate pictures in order to claim ownership of them in their
work. They are neither stealing or plagiarizing these photographs, nor are they
passing them off as their own.
