Fade Away - Listening Guides
Timing Form Descriptions: Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Dynamics, Timbre, Texture

The intro consists of a simple triple meter, three notes of an acoustic guitar, a bass guitar and keyboard. with an
emphasis on the 1st beat in a conjunct melody. Both the acoustic and bass guitar hold this melody throughout the song
0:00 Intro
for a moderate tempo. Some variation comes in at 0:17 with the drums leading into the first verse, playing a slightly
difference tempo.
Vocals start with a narrow range and arching melody. The drums and guitar continue to play and remains in tonal
0:18 First Verse
harmony but the keyboard changes to a sound similar to an organ piano creating some variation.

The original melody is held but, in the vocals, you can hear harmony with the lead singer and drummer singing "ah". The
0:35 Chorus remainder of the vocals are song solo in this chorus with the leads voice being echoed on "forever". A bass guitar can be
heard here leading into the second verse playing five notes and holding the last to create a riff for about five beats.

Vocals fade out briefly and you can now focus in on the original melody and bass guitar introduced in the chorus for 8
0:51 Bridge seconds. The singer focuses in again on two lines in the bridge "I know this won't last forever" another 8 seconds of
melody, singer comes back in ",But I wish this would last forever" The contour of the vocals are descending.

The instruments heard now are soley the acostic and bass guitar playing the four notes played in the intro. Lead singer
comes back in solo. Drums and keyboard start halfway throught the second verse. The timbre here has the melody

playing softley with guitars, a conjuct melody plays again on the keyboard again with an organ style with the notes being
held for about 5 beats, the drums carry the loudest sound.

1:29 Chorus Chorus is done as previously noted.

1:46 Bridge Bridge is done as previously noted.

Instrumental This break conists of the main melody but a slightly different sound comes from a bass guitar playing three notes and
2:02
break holding the third for about three beats.

The vocals sound like an inverted arch here with harmony from the drummer on "calm". The lyrics repeat with original
2:38 Outro melody until about 3:06 where you can hear the drums fade out with only the cymbals being tapped lighted and a focus
on the bass guitar. Eventually the cymbals disappear completely, and the bass guitar slowly starts to fade out.

The intro consists of a simple triple meter, three notes of an acoustic guitar accompanied by a bass with an emphasis on the
1st note and held for 2 beats. Bass drums come into focus around the 0:10 mark with three beats followed by two beats on
0:00 Intro the toms and two beats on the cymbals. The keyboard comes in to play now with a higher pitch playing three notes held on
the 3rd beat. Lastly a tambourine comes in to create the main melody for the song. The instruments start off on a slow
tempo but picks up to a more fast paced and upbeat tempo.

Vocals start with a narrow range and arching melody; the vocals sound relax and optimistic. The timbre is made up of taps on

The melody from the first verse is held throughout the chorus until the end where it breaks off into a bridge. Vocals are held

No vocals are heard in this small break. The emphasis is on the bass guitar playing the same beat as in the intro in an
1:00 First Bridge ascending contour. The tamberine can still be heard shaking faintly in foreground along with high pitches from the acoustic
guitar.
All instruments except for the acoustic guiatar stop playing with the same triple meter as played in the intro creating some

Contrast can be found here in the second bridge; the tempo slows down which you can hear in the acoustic and bass drums.
Second Vocals come back in on the first line in an ascending matter and then switches to arch. The singer continues to and

Chorus follows the same as melody as dome previous, and the song ends almost abruptly but softly with last lyric song

Timing Form Descriptions: Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Dynamics, Timbre, Texture

The intro starts with a triple meter played on an acoustic guitar. The contour and pitch seem to change with each bar. The
first bar starts with a low and slow tempo, the cord is played low and works up to a higher pitch. The second bar sounds high
0:00 Intro
to low with the same slow tempo. The third, fourth and fifth bar sounds steady on a high pitch and are picking up on tempo.
with the sixth dropping in pitch and tempo again. The beats change after the sixth bar to a descending duple meter

Vocals start with a narrow range and ascending melody and the moves into arching with some echo. The snare drum can be
0:16 First Verseheard with a clash on the cymbals. Keyboard comes in providing more of a reggae sound to the song in a duple meter and
there are also notes of an organ element.
The pe-chorus carries the same melody that was developed in the first verse. The tempo is moderate, and the lyrics are a bit
0:59 Pre-Chorus
drawn out.
Tempo picks up a bit here in the chorus creating some contrast, most of the instruments heard are the keyboard and drums.
1:27 Chorus Keyboard is playing a duple meter of the organ/piano sound. Drums sound like they are playing one beat on the snare drum
and then a few tings on cymbals. Overall shapes sound ascending, and the lyrics are short and in repetition.
No vocals are heard in this break. The main element is the organ sound on the keyboard playing triple meter in a higher pitch.
1:56 First Bridge
Faintly in the background you can hear the cymbals and a bass guitar in a duple meter.
Toms are played for two notes bringing us into the next verse. The pace is slower than the first verse. Main instruments are
Second

playing two notes and the keyboard maintains that "organ" sound.
The pe-chorus carries the same melody that was developed in the first verse. The tempo is moderate, and the lyrics are a bit
2:53 Pre-Chorus
drawn out.

3:22 Chorus The chorus repeats as before but adds the acoustic element that was established in the intro.

Good Vibes - Listening Guide
Timing Form Descriptions: Rhythm, Melody, Harmony, Dynamics, Timbre, Texture
Vocals start the song with out instrument acompaniment tempo is slow and relaxed. A sound comes in that I'd
0:00 Intro assume comes from the keyboard, it sounds like a digitized whirly tube and there is also a clapping sound.
Bass plays a moderate paced triple meter.
Trumpets bridge the intro to the first verse in an ascending triple meter, there is an instrument that sounds
0:18 First Verse like a clave making a clicking sound and the bass continues in triple meter. Cymbals are hit one time indicating
the end of the first verse. Tempo is moderate and the vocals are ascending.
0:30 Second Verse Melody remains the same as what was played in the first verse.

Melody is remaining consistant with the previous verse. The vocal range is narrow and arching. Trumpets can
0:43 Pre-Chorus
be heard near the end of this verse picking up in pitch.
Melody remains but the tempo slows down a bit and the lyrics are repeated with extension on certain words.
0:56 Chorus
There is another digitized sound I couldn’t quite determine but if gave sort of a disc scratching vibe.

1:20 Third Verse Melody remains the same as what was played in the previous verses. Vocals are arching.

Melody remains the same as what was played in the previous verses but about halfway through there is an
1:34 Fourth Verse
echoing effect on the trumpet.
Melody remains but the tempo slows down a bit and the lyrics are repeated with extension on certain words.
1:46 Chorus There is another small portion of echoing trumpets in this verse and the chorus ends with the trumpets
playing three notes gradually getting louder in pitch.
2:12 Fifth Verse Melody remains the same as what was played in the previous verses. Vocals are arching.
Guest artist Lutan Fyah comes in currently. The melody is mimicked from the previous verse but the tempo of
2:36 Sixth Verse they vocals has picked up and the range seems narrower than the lead singer and always in an ascending
fashion.
Hear you can both hear the lead and guest singer counterpoint each other. The melody remains but some of
3:11 Outro
the echoing trumpets can be here throughout.
