1. What is the significance of Nursing theory in the area of discipline and profession ?

 The significance of theory for the discipline of nursing is that the discipline is
dependent upon theory for its continued existence, that is,we can be a
vocation, or we can be adiscipline with a professional style o ftheory-based
practice.The theoretical works have taken nursing to higher levels of
education and practice as nurses have moved from the functional focus, or
what nurses do,to a knowledge focus, or what nurses know and how they use
what they know for thinking and decision making while concentrating on the
patient.

2. Make a research reading on the updates of the first three (3) schol of nursing. Are they still in
existence? Include their location . What are the changes/progress as to how far they have been.

THROUGH the years Iloilo Mission Hospital continues to provide medical care to the
Ilonggos.  Established in 1901, known as Mission Hospital Dispensary, it started as a bamboo
clinic and was built through the efforts of Dr. & Mrs. Joseph Andrew Hall, Presbyterian
Missionary Doctor and Nurse.

From its humble beginning at Ledesma Street to Iznart Street, and now Mission Road, IMH
continues to uphold its mission as a Christian hospital committed to serve the community in
love through holistic healing, training and preaching ministries.

In pursuit of Iloilo Mission Hospital’s vision, mission and desire to continue providing
excellent patient care, improvements are being done continually to cater the needs of its
clientele. These have sustained the IMH’s vision of delivering quality patient care through
committed, well-trained and caring hospital staff that touch lives with the love of God.

Iloilo Mission Hospital is a member institution of the Convention of the Philippine Baptist
Churches. It has 261-bed capacity and serves as the clinical area for students in Medicine,
Nursing, Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Medical Social Work, Pharmacy, Nutrition
and Dietetics and Chaplaincy Program.  It has an accredited residency training program for
Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Family & Community Medicine
and Surgery. It also accepts practicum training for Business and Information Technology.
As the first nursing school in the Philippines which started in 1906, it is home to thousands of
nurses whose values and competencies have been moulded according to the virtues of
Christianity. It is the basis by IMH is known as a haven of caring people.

 ‘Saint Paul’s Hospital School of Nursing (Manila, 1907)’

The St. Paul University Manila, also referred to by its acronym SPUM or SPU Manila, is a

private, Catholic coeducational basic and higher education institution established and run by
the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Paul of Chartres in Dumaguete City, Philippines. It
was established in 1912 by the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres (SPC),[1] a religious congregation
founded in Chartres, France in 1698. It was previously an all-girls' school and turned co-ed
beginning school year 2005-2006.[2]
On 1912, St. Paul's Manila opened a Kindergarten school with an enrollment of six girls,
upon request of the families in the neighborhood.The school was named St. Paul Institution.
Grade I was opened in 1913 with one higher grade opened each year and boys accepted up to
Grade 2. The Grade School Department was given government recognition when it has
reached Grade 6.

1957- The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) was opened with five-year BSN,
four-year BSN, two-year Supplemental Course.

2005- recognized the need for diversity in its continuing growth and development
as an academic institution and as a university.
 Allied programs were clustered into colleges

2006- SPU Manila sent a delegation of faculty and students (College of Nursing and
Allied Health Sciences and College of Business and Management) to China for an
exchange program with Zhaoqing Medical College and Zhaoqing Business College,
respectively.

 ‘Philippine General Hospital School of Nursing (Manila, 1907)’

 He Philippine General Hospital (also known as University of the Philippines–
Philippine General Hospital or UP–Philippine General Hospital), simply
referred to as UP–PGH or PGH, is a tertiary state-owned hospital administered
and operated by the University of the Philippines Manila. It is designated as the
National University Hospital, and the national government referral center. It
stands within a 10-hectare (25-acre) site located at the UP Manila Campus
 in Ermita, Manila. PGH has 1,100 beds and 400 private beds, and has an
estimated of 4,000 employees to serve more than 600,000 patients every year.[3]
 The PGH, being the largest training hospital in the country, is the laboratory
hospital of health science students enrolled in the University of the Philippines.
This includes students of medicine, nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy,
occupational therapy, dentistry, and speech pathology.
 There are 16 clinical departments under the Philippine General Hospital —
Family and Community Medicine, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Surgery,
Neurosciences, Pediatrics, Otorhinolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery,
Ophthalmology, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation Medicine, Psychiatry, Radiology,
Pathology, Emergency Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, and Dermatology—
all of which offer residency and fellowship training. It also offers various
training for paramedical specialties such as nursing, physical therapy,
occupational therapy, speech pathology, radiation technology, nutrition,
hospital dentistry, medical technology and EMT training.

3. What is Science and Art?

There are two paramount differences between art and science. The first is that art is
subjective while science is objective. The second is that art expresses knowledge, most
often in the form of subjective representation, while science is the system of acquiring
knowledge. Art and science are therefore in fundamental character very dissimilar.
Science is concerned with general truths about the operation of general laws
pertaining to the physical (and quantum) world and relies on methods of study and
data accumulation based on observation and experimentation. The primary method is
called the scientific method, which not only allows for methodical knowledge collection
but also allows for confirmation of knowledge as other scientists replicate and
corroborate observations, experiments, results, and conclusions.
Art, which transcends historical and cultural features and therefore has trans-
historical and trans-cultural characteristics, is concerned with aesthetics and is said to
have a relatively "stable aesthetic core" united with perceptual properties. This
definition roughly covers varying traditionalist, conventionalist, contemporary, and
functional definitions of art. Aesthetic is a heightened sensitivity to "beauty" and
"good taste.
