EXTEMPORE COMPETITION

 Seniors - Students of class VIII, IX and X


 Juniors - Students of class VI & VII

 No separate groups for boys and girls

FORMAT OF THE COMPETITION
 The speech is intended to reveal a competitor’s ability to develop a point of
view on a general topic and to deliver an impromptu speech within limited
preparation time.
 Each participant will be given 3 minutes to speak extempore on a topic
picked up by him or her.
 Bunch of the topics will be given to select any one randomly either from
English or from Hindi topics.
 He/she will be given 15 minutes prior to the speech to think over the topic.

RULES OF THE COMPETITION


 Participant has to speak in English or Hindi according to the language
selected.
 Maximum time limit to think over the topic will be 15 minutes and the
maximum time for speech will be 3 minutes.
 The participant will be allowed to select the topic once only.
 Participant will not be allowed to take any paper or material with him or her
during the speech.
 Participants can carry a blank sheet of paper to make notes about the topic
but they will not be allowed to carry them for the speech.

SKILLS YOU NEED


Extempores do not always assess an individual’s knowledge of the subject. It
assesses a person’s reasoning abilities, communication skills, and self-
confidence. The person who nails an extempore round is the one who gets
through to the audience. It is critical to understand the abilities needed to
succeed in the extempore.
Some of the skills that you can develop to perform well in the extempore round
are listed below –
 Ability to communicate
 Body language that is composed and poised
 Thinking logically
 Confidence
 Ability to Analyse
 Possessing the ability to think on your feet

November 2022 (Monday). No names will be accepted after the last
date
