Physics Problems
Solve the following problems. Complete the solution by having:
Given data, Formula, Complete units in progress.
Final answer with units.

1. A box is dragged horizontally across the surface by a 100N force. Find out the amount of
work done in moving the object through a distance of 12m.

Formula: W = F d

Solution: W = F d Work?
W = 100𝑁 • 12𝑚
W = 1200 𝐽 F=100 N

d=12 m

2. Tom and Jerry did a car workout. They applied a cumulative force of 1050N to push the
car 25m to the nearest fuel station. Determine the work done on the car.

Formula: W = F d

Solution: W = F d Work?
W = 1050𝑁 • 25𝑚
W = 26, 250 𝐽 F=1050 N

d=25 m

3. A box has a mass of 6.5kg. The box is lifted from the garage floor and placed on a shelf.
If the box gained 140J of potential energy, how high is the shelf?

Formula: PE = mgh

Solution: PE = mgh Height?

𝑃𝐸 140 𝐽
h= (𝑚𝑔)
= 2 = 2.19 PE= 140 J
(6.5 𝑘𝑔 • 9.81 𝑚/𝑠 )
h = 2. 19 𝑚 m=6.5 kg
4. A man climbs a wall that is 3.5m high and gains 1500J of potential energy.What is the
mass of the man?

Formula: PE = mgh

Solution: PE = mgh Mass?

h=3.5m
𝑃𝐸 1500 𝐽
m= (ℎ𝑔)
= 2 = 43.6 kg PE= 1500 J
(3.5 𝑚 • 9.81 𝑚/𝑠 )

m = 43. 7 𝑘𝑔

5. What is the kinetic energy of a 560kg object that is moving with a speed of 25m/s?

Formula: KG = ½ mv^2

Solution: KG = ½ mv^2 KE?

2
KE = 0. 5 (560𝑘𝑔) (25𝑚/𝑠) = 175,000 J V= 25 m/s
= 1.75 x 10^5 J m= 560kg

6. An object has kinetic energy of 14J and mass of 25kg. How fast is the object moving?

Formula: KE = ½ mv^2 | • 2

Solution: 2KE = mv^2 | ÷ 𝑚 V?

2𝐾𝐸
v^2 = 𝑚
| KE= 14 J
2𝐾𝐸 2(14 𝐽)
v^2 = 𝑚
= 25𝑘𝑔
= 1.0 m/s m= 25 kg

V= 1.06 m/s
