What is a floppy disk?

-A floppy disk is a small magnetic disk that was used in the past for storing
computer data and programs. Floppy disks were used especially with personal
computers.

-A floppy disk is also referred to simply as a floppy. Since the early days of
personal computing, floppy disks were widely used to distribute software,
transfer files, and create backup copies of data.

How does a floppy disk work?

The information retrieved and written onto a floppy disk is controlled by the
process of magnetic encoding. As the read/write head passes over designated
tracks of the floppy disk it uses magnetic polarization to write information onto the
disk, and to retrieve this information.
WHAT IS DIGITAL VERSATILE DISC (DVD)?

-A digital versatile disc (DVD) is an optical disc storage medium similar to a

compact disc,But with enhanced data storage capacities as well as with higher
quality of video audio formats.

-There are many advantages associated with the DVD format.

Compared to a CD, the audio quality is superior thanks to DTS or
Dolby Digital technology. The picture quality is also superior to CD and
the DVD player is capable of taking one to a specific moment in the
video or audio, unlike a CD player.

How does DVD/CD WORKS?

The disc revolves in a circular motion inside the player, while an optical head
laser slowly moves outward and remains focused on the pits. The laser beam is
reflected back to a detector when it hits the lands, and it is scattered away from
the detector by the pits.

WHAT FLASH DRIVES?

-A USB flash drive is a device used for data storage that includes a flash
memory and an integrated Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. Most USB
flash drives are removable and rewritable. Physically, they are small, durable and
reliable. The larger their storage space, the faster they tend to operate.

TYPES OF FLASH DRIVE

● Flash memory-based CompactFlash (CF) card (including CFast card) and
XQD card (Note: some other types of CF and XQD card are not flash
memory-based)
● Memory Stick (MS)
● MultiMediaCard (MMC)
● Secure Digital card (SD, SDHC, SDXC)
● SmartMedia card (SM)
● xD-Picture Card (xD)

How does Flash drive work?
Flash memory uses an electrically erasable programmable read-only (EEPROM)
format to store and retrieve data. Flash drives operate in a similar fashion as
conventional hard drives. Flash drives are non-volatile, which means they do not
need a battery backup.
