Introduction
The Fairfax County Association for the Gifted (FCAG) helps to inform parents about academic programs and enrichment opportunities. We are a non-profit, non-governmental, 100% volunteer organization, and we have been in existence for about 40 years. Here are just a few of the ways that we serve our members and the gifted community.
FCAG publishes an annual Guide to Summer Academic Programs and Enrichment Camps. This is the only catalog of its type, focusing on summer schools and enrichment camps. Many of these programs are tailored specifically for gifted students. FCAG hosts a free online yahoo chat group. There are currently close to 1,000 members on the listserv of this group. Parents post questions and share interesting articles and information about advanced academics, school policies, and enrichment opportunities.
FCAG sponsors math contests for elementary, middle school students. For the past three years, FCAG has sponsored the American Mathematics Contest 8 (AMC 8) for students in, or below, eighth grade whose schools do not offer the contest. FCAG also offers the AMC 10 for elementary and middle school students if they score in the top 5% on the AMC 8. FCAGs speaker series helps parents learn about educational issues. Weve had a panel of experts talk about STEM enrichment programs. Weve offered opportunities for parents to meet with school board members. A past speaker provided the secrets to the 24 Game, a contest to help elementary students hone their computation skills. Be on the lookout for upcoming programs. FCAG sponsors an annual Summer Academic Programs and Enrichment Camps Fair. This year, the Summer Camp Fair will be on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 (7:00 9:00 pm) in the Oakton High School cafeteria. It is free and open to the public, so please feel free to spread the word and bring a friend.
In order to provide these and many other services, we rely on membership dues and donations. So, if you have not renewed your membership dues or if you are not yet a member, please do so. You can use the membership form provided on page 41, or visit our website: www.fcag.org.

Introduction
Fortunately, there are so many programs available that we cannot possibly include all of them, especially for residential programs nationwide. If you have a high school child who is particularly interested in a specific college, check to see whether it offers a summer program. Below is a list of other sources which may help you to find additional summer academic and enrichment programs. The 2010 Guide to Summer Academic Programs and Enrichment Camps is available online in pdf format at www.fcag.org. If you or someone else you know would like another printed copy, extra copies are available for sale for $10 each. Contact Lara Bove via e-mail: vicepresident@fcag.org. Or simply mail a $10 check (payable to FCAG) with your address and contact information to: FCAG - Lara Bove 4863 Cove Rd Fairfax, VA 22032
