ASSURE is an educational design model aiming to improve the teaching experience's

effectiveness. ASSURE is an acronym that represents the steps in the model. The Ron Clark Story is an
incredible example of the model. In his teaching, the teacher employs the model's stages.

In "ASSURE" the first step is to analyze learners. Mr. Clark tries to learn more about his
students before his first class. This step can be seen when he meets with students' parents to learn
about their backgrounds. I believe it is critical for teachers to understand what their students require
and how to effectively teach them. Also, it is a great move to make when planning how to teach their
learners because when it comes to the learners, their needs come second to their desires. Knowing
the students intimately helps the instructor in many ways. Mr. Clark's actions are admirable in my
opinion, but I believe that most teachers in Turkey cannot afford to meet their students' families in
person because there are too many students in a class or because both the parents and the teacher
may be unable to arrange a meeting due to scheduling conflicts.

The second step is to state standards and objectives. From the very beginning, Mr. Clark’s
sole purpose was to make his students dream big and take risks. During his class, he stated a couple
of rules and two of them were we are a family and respect each other. Setting rules is important to
state standards because without any rules the class cannot function as a learning environment. He
stated objectives kindly and clearly without leaving any room for questions. I like how he uses
ASSURE with his unique teaching style. Mr. Clark’s style can be possible in our classrooms too if the
instructor is thoughtful and enduring enough.

The following step is to choose strategies, technology, media, and materials. Mr. Clark's
teaching style is instructor-centered. He devises various strategies to engage students in learning. For
example, to get closer to the students, he organizes student activities and games. To me, this is the
hardest step in the model because it demands well observation and dedication. In Turkey, teachers
generally stick to commonly used materials so I do not think that most of the teachers can achieve
this.

The fourth step is to utilize technology, media, and materials. Mr. Clark makes every effort to
keep the students' attention. He uses a variety of methods and materials. For example, he
writes and sings a rap song to teach history. Besides that, when he is ill, he uses video recordings to
continue teaching. Mr. Clark's unusual solutions to encourage his students to learn are impressive. In
Turkey, most of the teachers follow the curriculum strictly so this approach most probably cannot be
seen here.

The fifth step is to make learner participation required. This is the point that Mr. Clark has
been trying to make the entire time. He works hard to get his students to participate in class
discussions and finish their assignments. He uses reinforcements to make his students participate in
the learning process. For example, he will not allow any student to eat lunch unless they all line up to
go to the cafeteria. Therefore, students have to obey the rules and participate in class. Finally, Mr.
Clark encourages the students to succeed on the state exam, and they begin to study. This was a
turning point for Mr. Clark because his efforts finally started to pay off. It made me think after doing
all those things this must have felt good.

The final step is to evaluate and revise. This is an important step forward in terms of teaching
efficiency. Mr. Clark continuously evaluates and revises his methods to meet a suitable standard for
the students. For instance, he pays special attention to students who do not meet specific learning
goals. He meets and talks to them regularly, both inside and outside of the school. As a result of his
evaluations, he revises his teaching. This step is crucial for maintaining educational standards and
improving learning outcomes. This step absolutely will be the one that I will spend most of my time
with. In my opinion, evaluating and revising oneself is one of the most important things to do to see
how one is doing.

To conclude all the steps of the ASSURE model can be seen in the movie through Mr. Clark’s
teaching. Watching these steps eventually his class becomes successful. After finishing the movie I
thought to myself if someday I become a teacher I want to be like Mr. Clark. ASSURE is a great model
and each teacher should use it for the benefit of their students.
