In developing probable cause in this matter your affiant has received information from fellow law enforcement officers, witnesses, suspect statements, complaints, documentation, and reviewed the investigative efforts as noted On December 3, 2022, the Brevard uunty Sheriff's Office (BCSO) contacted the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) in reference to BCSO deputies Andrew Lawson and Asetin Walsh, who are roommates, The vo resi Arr HE sing the night of December 2, 2022, to December 3, 2022, Lawson and ‘Walsh were at home when Lawson was playing with a firearm causing a single shot to be fired causing the death of Walsh. At approximately 12:42 a.m., the Palm Bay Police Department (PBPD) received a 911 call from Lawson indicating that he had shot his roommate (Walsh), and Walsh was unresponsive. PBPD responded to the residence and made contact with Walsh, who had a gunshot wound to the head. Walsh was pronounced dead at the scene. According to Lawson, he had checked to determine that the firearm was unloaded. Walsh was standing in the hallway of the residence at the doorway ‘of Lawson’s bedroom. Lawson pointed the firearm at Walsh and pulled the trigger. The firearm did not go off, and Lawson manipulated the firearm by pulling the slide back. Lawson stated he still believed the firearm was unloaded but should have known the magazine containing ammunition was possibly in the firearm by the weight of the gun, Lawson again pointed the firearm at Walsh as he pulled the trigger for a second time. Upon squeezing the trigger, a single shot was fired striking Walsh in the head causing his death. Lawson immediately called 911 and reported the incident. In the 911 call Lawson informed dispatchers that he had just shot his friend. It was loaded, with one in the chamber, and there was one spent casing near the body of Walsh. Based on the above facts, statements and physical evidence provided, your Affiant has probable cause to believe and does believe that the above listed probable cause, all leads to the substantiation that defendant, Andrew Jacob Lawson, has committed a violation of the laws of the State of Florida, to wit: Manslaughter-Reclassified with a Firearm, contrary to sections 782.07(1), 773.087(1)(b), Florida Statutes, Your Affiant, Special Agent (SA) Scott Ratliff (hereinafter referred to as Your Affiant) is a swom Law Enforcement Officer employed by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and is currently assigned to the FDLE Brevard/Volusia Field Office. Your Affiant has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, in conducting investigations into crimes against persons and property. Your Affiant is currently a law enforcement officer certified by the Florida ID#: 25072 Police Standards Board and has been a certified law enforcement officer in the state of Florida since 1990.
