RESPONSE PAPER

SARKAR
The state is the ultimate sovereign in a given territory. Subhash Nagre is the sovereign in this
movie. The movie Sarkar emphasises the power that exists in our society in several ways.
Another form of the sovereign is one who has the greatest degree of ruling capacity. Subhash
Nagre progressively seizes political control of the state since the state fails to carry out its
obligations. In an effort to remove Sarkar from people’s thoughts and remove Subhash Nagre
from his position, those who disagree with his rules and policies aim to do so. The "shadow
authority" of Sarkar, however, exists whenever the government has failed to administer
legitimate justice. He commands the respect of the citizens inside his territory, and his
authority is accepted as the law, supported by the force of his followers. He may be
controlling and collaborating with the criminal underworld to achieve the ultimate good of
society. The ideology of "Sarkar", which is sovereign in the movie "Sarkar", does not reside
in any one person forever. This is explicitly stated in the film's last moments when Shankar
takes his father Subhash Nagre's seat and listens to a commoner’s issues. Subhash Nagre is
called Sarkar in the movie because he controls the society with the help of building an
unorganised government circuit to override the sovereign of the state and he establishes a
one-man sovereignty power.

People follow Sarkar's legacy instead of the democratic system because of him. Therefore,
there is a danger that the state will become even more undemocratic. Referring to a sovereign
that resides in one person's face in this movie, which reflects the current state of India,
indicates that one political party is in charge of sovereignty. The democratic system is leaning
heavily toward one-man rule. In the movie, Sarkar transfers authority to his son; similarly, in
the current political system, power always remains in the family and does not extend to the
general public.

In India, the sovereign realm will be run by a one-man show starting in 2014. The term
"sovereign" is employed by the political party to advance their political interests. Anyone
who questions the government is subjected to raids by the ED, the IT department, and other
agencies. Because they are referring to themselves as "sovereignty of land" in a broader sense
for the purpose of political stability, the questioning power is fading constantly and dividing

the people in terms of religion by coding the word nationalism. The Indian government
responded strongly, stating that the CAA is a national matter involving the sovereign
authority of Parliament to create laws. The protest against CAA was curbed by the
government by saying the sovereignty of the country should be protected.

The power to capture the sovereign in India leads to communal clashes of the community.
They are dividing the people’s ideology based on the words like sovereign and nationalism.
By this India is facing religious imbalance between the community which leads to the idea of
separationists. The state undermines the legitimacy of constitutional bodies by portraying
itself as the force to safeguarding India's sovereignty.

TUGHLAQ
Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq established a number of regulations in his kingdom, including the
legal tender status of copper coinage, the order to move the capital from Delhi to Daulatabad,
the ban on prayer for five years, and so on. In his kingdom, political and customary rules
prevailed. He had been described by his contemporaries, as ‘one of the wonders of the age in
which he lived. But all these great qualities were over shadowed by his cruelty and obstinacy.
During his period, he introduced several new and novel experiments and also experienced the
impact of the same. Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq, in spite of all these rare qualities, was a failure
as a ruler. Normally, his plans were endowed with remarkable political foresight but in
practice they caused havoc. Muhammad-bin-Tughlaq was hot-headed, proud to the very core,
poor judge of human nature and above all never bothered to give weight and value to the
suggestions given by his subordinates.

The fact that Tughlaq failed in his duty as king and responded to dissension and distrust with
ferocious violence speaks much about the people's disobedience toward him. Sovereign
power is to protect and to gain the support of his people. The process of obeying authority
continues in the state until the sovereignty exists within the law. The people obey the state by
a set of rules which are prescribed by political affairs based on public opinion. The difference
is that there is uncertainty in the statecraft during the king's rule. But in the case of a state, the
majority of the time, statecraft is stable and visible to the subjects.

Since 2014, the Indian government has been ruthlessly criticising the previous administration
while being extremely proactive in reforming the whole system. Similarly, to the action made
by Tughlaq. The government is spending thousands of taxpayer resources to promote its
"achievements." They promised to double farmer’s income, but they were unable to prevent
farmer suicide in reality. Those who vowed to provide 2 crore employment opportunities for
youths annually, but in reality, they are privatising public sector enterprises, which is driving
the government toward a capitalistic class controlled by industrialists and businessmen.
Dissenting students, leaders, and minorities are increasingly being targeted by severe laws
like sedition and the UAPA. This political action developed as the investigating agencies
started to target opposition leaders in various cases, including in universities where dissident
students were accused of sedition. In light of this, the state did not carry out the sovereignty
of law but rather operated based on party policies.

The present government is exactly acting as a Tughlaq because their interest lies in political
stability rather than social stability. India is shifting from socialist democracy to capitalistic
democracy at a faster rate. Therefore, the core idea of India is Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas
diluted as Sabka Saath Sabka Vinaash.
