Description Image My notes

1 This story is about Jesus

who understands our
hurts and is able to heal
the broken-hearted. It is
also about two sisters,
Mary and Martha, and
their brother Lazarus.

2 Lazarus became very

sick. His sisters Mary
and Martha knew Jesus
could heal Lazarus. They
sent for Him to come to
their village. Jesus loved
Mary, Martha and
Lazarus, but He did not
hurry to them. Instead,
He waited where He was
and Lazarus died. Jesus
wanted to show His
great power over life
and death.

3 Four days after Lazarus

died Jesus went to see
the two sisters. Martha
heard Jesus was coming
and ran to meet Him.
Jesus said to her, ‘I am
the resurrection and the
life; he who believes in
Me shall live even if he
dies.’
Martha believed Jesus’
words.
4 Mary also heard Jesus
was coming and ran to
meet Him. She fell at the
feet of Jesus. When Jesus
saw Mary weeping He
wept with her.

5 Jesus asked to go to the

tomb of Lazarus and roll
back the stone covering
the entrance.
The sisters hesitated,
saying, ‘Lord, after four
days he will stink!’
Jesus answered, ‘If you
believe you will see the
glory of God!’

6 Jesus stood by the tomb

and cried out with a loud
voice, ‘Lazarus, come
out!’
Though Lazarus had
died, he came to life and
walked out of his own
tomb!
Many believed in Jesus
when they saw the
power He had to heal
even the dead!

7 When Lazarus died,

Jesus came to comfort
and help Martha. Jesus
comes to us in the midst
of our hurts too. He
loves us and is able to
heal our broken hearts.
‘He heals the broken-
hearted and binds up
their wounds.’ Psalm
147:3
