(DAY 1-2)
1. When science period starts, students will
make their way to the reading mat.
2. Once at the mat, the teacher will ask the
students what they know about butterflies.
3. After a moment of discussing, the teacher will
introduce the book The Amazing Life Cycle of
Butterflies by Kay Barnham.
4. After reading the book, the teacher will ask
students what they thought about the book. If
anything surprised them.
5. This book will then begin the lesson into
animal life cycles.
6. The teacher will explain the life cycle that all
animals go through and introduce any
important vocabulary.
7. After teaching the lesson, the teacher will
introduce the animal life cycle activity.
(DAY 3-5)
8. On the next day of class, the students will
begin doing research on an animal of their
choice (butterfly is not allowed).
9. Students should use at least one physical book
in their research. The rest of the information
can be done online.
10. Once the students have done their research,
the teacher will explain how they will be using
My Storybook to make a book about the life
cycle of the animal they chose.
11. The teacher will bring up Storyboard That on
the screen and show the students how they
will be creating their story.
12. As the students are working on their stories,
the teacher will walk around to help or
answer any questions that the students may
have.
13. The students will then present their stories to
the class.

The students will choose an animal that they like
and create a story about its life cycle. They can
download real pictures of the animals. Students
also have the ability to print out the books.
