Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia is an American animated television series produced by DreamWorks

Animation and Double Dare You Production, inspired by an illustrated novel by the same name,
made by Guillermo del Toro, a Mexican Award-winning filmmaker, author and actor, and Daniel
Kraus, a New York Times bestselling author. It was relased worldwide on Netflix on December 23,
2016. This series was then said to be the first chapter of the Tales of Arcadia trilogy along with
3Below and Wizards. The main characters, James Lake Jr. aka Jim was voiced by Anton Yelchin. Jim’s
friends, Toby Domzalski and Claire Nuñez were portrayed by Charlie Sexton and Lexi Medrano
respectively. Jim’s troll advisor and later on a father figure, Blinky Galadrigal and his companion
AAARRRGGHH!!! , his real name Aarghaumont voiced by Kelsey Grammer and Fred Tatasciore.

This 52-episode or 3-season series is about a young teenage boy, James “Jim” Lake Junior who found
a mysterious and magical amulet. Little that he knew that the amulet will then change his and his
friends’ life forever. Arcadia Oaks that they once knew was a no-ordinary town, a home not just for
humankind but also trollkind. After knowing that the amulet has chosen him as the next Trollhunter,
Jim then struggled balancing a double life – as a high-school student by day and a trollhunter by
night. Along with his friends, they fought off evil-lurking trolls known as the Gumm-Gumms, goblins
and even changelings that can change form between trolls and humans. These evil creatures led by
Bular were planning on releasing Gunmar, the leader of of the Gumm-Gumms and also Bular’s
father. Gunmar along with other Gumm-Gumms were sucked through a portal under the Killahead
Bridge and trapped in the Darklands. The only way to reopen the portal was to use the magical
amulet.

In my point of view, this series became one of my top favorite animated series that I ever watched.
The plot made was well-regulated and dramatically logical. The characters were top-tier. This series
made me love fantasy and adventure-genred movies and TV shows regardless whether they’re live-
action or animated. The fact that it was only available on Netflix made me realize that this series was
quite special. I’ve watched the trilogy and I’m now looking forward to collect all 6 books in the
franchise. This year, a new movie Trollhunters: Rise of the Titans was about to release and I suggest
that whoever wants to watch this film must watch the trilogy before doing so to get a better
understanding. I rate this series 9.8/10 and highly recommend this series to all fantasy lovers out
there.
