2. Explain the value of School Health Nursing for both students and personnel
- School-aged children faces variety of health problems without them being aware of. These
health problems often the sole reason of why children resulted to low school performance,
absenteeism, and early dropout. If school health nursing services were provided in a certain institution,
this helps the students be aware of their current health conditions and referred to be treated as early as
possible. With school health nursing, it also focuses on health promotion, maintenance, and disease
prevention. Therefore, a need for mental and physical check-up is necessary for students in all ages to
improve both academic performance and sense of well-being as well.
3. Identify the emerging fields of community and public health nursing.
a. Faith community nursing or parish nursing - is the practice of the art and science of nursing
combined with spiritual care. A faith community usually focuses on health promotion and
provision of holistic care to members of the faith community.
b. Correlational Nursing - is a specialized subset of forensic nursing. It requires a significant
amount of knowledge as well as an understanding and awareness of the unique needs and
perspectives of the clients served.
c. Entrepreneurship Nursing - focuses on encouraging nurses to pursue independent practice
and establish singly or in collaboration, healthcare related business establishments.

Chapter 4 Health Promotion & Disease Prevention (pages 55-75)

1. Analyze a health promotion program using the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion
Develop Personal Skills. This program is an effective approach in health promotion. This allows a
individual to exercise control over their own health and environment, and to make choices
conducive to health. This program favors personal and social development through providing
information, education for health, and enhancing like skills. Individuals uses this approach as their
means of coping with their current health conditions and enables them to be life-long learners and
prepares them for all life stages.
2. Discuss the relationship of risk to health and health promotion activities
- Health is related to the activities which we get involved with. This includes our lifestyle,
diet, and the environment in which we are exposed to every day. There are two types of risk
regarding health and health promotion activities, and these are modifiable (which one can
control) and non-modifiable (one cannot control) risk factors. Non-modifiable risk factors
includes genetic makeup, gender, age, and environmental exposures. While modifiable risk
factors are those behaviors in which one had control over. Examples are the use of tobacco
or cigarettes, liquors and other vices that contributes to the risk of acquiring a certain
disease. Meanwhile, health promotion activities are those in which one exercises to prevent
acquiring diseases or illnesses, or one engage to for personal gratification.
3. List health behaviors for health promotion and disease prevention
