SEPTEMBER 2008 MISSION TO ST.

LOUIS MO

COR PAULI : COR CHRISTI

The main teachings of St. Paul, since this a Pauline Year for his 2000th birthday.

His powerful connection to and motives to undertake the Ignatian Retreats:

Week 1 P&F Faith, sin, salvation, Heaven, Hell, death, Judgement, Repentance.
Then: Mercy of God, Confession, Renewed First Holy Communion,
Week 2 Call of Christ the King, His Sacred Royalty over all, our response individually and collectively.
Week 3 His Sacred Passion and finding/fulfilling our vocation. The role of priests and the hierarchy of the Church
Week 4 His glorification, living in His Sacred Family (being “in Christ”). The role of the Marriage vocation and its reflection of the
divine wedding feast of eternal life.

1. Faith in Our Lord Jesus Christ as central to salvation, as opposed to the

idea of works of the Jewish Law. Themes such as sin and redemption,
divinity of Christ, uniqueness of His life and Church for salvation. (urging
all to keep the Tradition and avoid sin) 248 times in NT.

Faith IN THE NEW CATECHISM OF 1992

Just as there can only be one true God, so there is only one true revealed faith, the doctrines of which are
the most sacred trust for the Church to hand down through all ages by its teaching authority. This
Catechism reaffirms the errors of the Second Vatican Council (1962 1965) that we should have a "sincere
respect for different religions" (#2104), that God uses non Catholic churches "as means of salvation"
(#819).

What is true is that we must respect sincerely held convictions (subjective faith), but not the false content
of these non Catholic sects (objective faith). Baptism makes one a member of Christ and his Mystical Body,
the Catholic Church, but adhering to a false sect cuts one off from this divine life in Christ. God uses what
is still Catholic in these sects "as means" of salvation, the sect itself is at best an occasion, but usually an
obstacle to salvation. Article 121 says that the “Old Covenant (ie: the Old Testament) has never been
revoked” Compare that with the Council of Florence which tells us that to observe the Mosaic Law now
risks eternal salvation (Denz 712)

The Redemptive Work of Christ

This is undermined by the practical denial of the supernatural order, and a grossly exaggerated exultation
of the dignity of human nature. This is why all doctrines unacceptable to the modem world are
ambiguously presented in this book.

This Catechism speaks little of man's duty, which it says derives from his dignity. (#2104)

Rather, his duty derives from God, as also his dignity which is restored by doing his duty

and believing in the Blood of Christ the Redeemer. This Catechism following Vatican 11, pretends to give
rights based upon the dignity of the human person, to every false cult, even for "those who do not five up
to their obligation of seeking the truth and adhering to it." (#2106)

ON ST. CHARLES BORROMEO

EDITAE SAEPE

1
Encyclical of Pope Pius X promulgated on May 26, 1910.

…"When you heard and received from us the word of God, you welcomed it not as the word of man, but, as it truly is, the word of
God, who works in you who have believed."[42]

27. "The word of God is living and efficient and keener than any two-edged sword."[43] It will not only preserve and defend the faith
but also effectively motivate us to do good works since "faith...without works is dead."[44] "For it is not they who hear the Law that
are just in the sight of God; but it is they who follow the Law that will be justified."[45]

28. Now in this also we see the immense difference between true and false reform. The advocates of false reform, imitating the
fickleness of the foolish, generally rush into extremes. They either emphasize faith to such an extent that they neglect good works or
they canonize nature with the excellence of virtue while overlooking the assistance of faith and divine grace. As a matter of fact,
however, merely naturally good acts are only a counterfeit of virtue since they are neither permanent nor sufficient for salvation. The
work of this kind of a reformer cannot restore discipline. On the contrary, it ruins faith and morals.

SYLLABUS CONDEMNING THE ERRORS OF THE MODERNISTS

LAMENTABILI SANE

Pius X July 3, 1907

With truly lamentable results, our age, casting aside all restraint in its search for the ultimate causes of things, frequently pursues
novelties so ardently that it rejects the legacy of the human race. Thus it falls into very serious errors, which are even more serious
when they concern sacred authority, the interpretation of Sacred Scripture, and the principal mysteries of Faith. The fact that many
Catholic writers also go beyond the limits determined by the Fathers and the Church herself is extremely regrettable. In the name of
higher knowledge and historical research (they say), they are looking for that progress of dogmas which is, in reality, nothing but the
corruption of dogmas.

These errors are being daily spread among the faithful. Lest they captivate the faithful's minds and corrupt the purity of their faith, His
Holiness, Pius X, by Divine Providence, Pope, has decided that the chief errors should be noted and condemned by the Office of this
Holy Roman and Universal Inquisition.

2. The Church's interpretation of the Sacred Books is by no means to be rejected; nevertheless, it is subject to the more accurate
judgment and correction of the exegetes.

3. From the ecclesiastical judgments and censures passed against free and more scientific exegesis, one can conclude that the Faith the
Church proposes contradicts history and that Catholic teaching cannot really be reconciled with the true origins of the Christian
religion.

4. Even by dogmatic definitions the Church's magisterium cannot determine the genuine sense of the Sacred Scriptures.

5. Since the deposit of Faith contains only revealed truths, the Church has no right to pass judgment on the assertions of the human
sciences.

11. Divine inspiration does not extend to all of Sacred Scriptures so that it renders its parts, each and every one, free from every error.

12. If he wishes to apply himself usefully to Biblical studies, the exegete must first put aside all preconceived opinions about the
supernatural origin of Sacred Scripture and interpret it the same as any other merely human document.

20. Revelation could be nothing else than the consciousness man acquired of his revelation to God.

21. Revelation, constituting the object of the Catholic faith, was not completed with the Apostles.

22. The dogmas the Church holds out as revealed are not truths which have fallen from heaven. They are an interpretation of religious
facts which the human mind has acquired by laborious effort.

31. The doctrine concerning Christ taught by Paul, John, and the Councils of Nicea, Ephesus and Chalcedon is not that which Jesus
taught but that which the Christian conscience conceived concerning Jesus.

38. The doctrine of the expiatory death of Christ is Pauline and not evangelical.

40. The Sacraments have their origin in the fact that the Apostles and their successors, swayed and moved by circumstances and
events, interpreted some idea and intention of Christ.

44. There is nothing to prove that the rite of the Sacrament of Confirmation was employed by the Apostles. The formal distinction of
the two Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation does not pertain to the history of primitive Christianity.

45. Not everything which Paul narrates concerning the institution of the Eucharist (I Cor. 11:23-25) is to be taken historically.

50. The elders who fulfilled the office of watching over the gatherings of the faithful were instituted by the Apostles as priests or
bishops to provide for the necessary ordering of the increasing communities and not properly for the perpetuation of the Apostolic
mission and power.

60. Christian Doctrine was originally Judaic. Through successive evolutions it became first Pauline, then Joannine, finally Hellenic
and universal.

65. Modern Catholicism can be reconciled with true science only if it is transformed into a non-dogmatic Christianity; that is to say,
into a broad and liberal Protestantism.

The following Thursday, the fourth day of the same month and year, all these matters were accurately reported to our Most Holy Lord,
Pope Pius X. His Holiness approved and confirmed the decree of the Most Eminent Fathers and ordered that each and every one of the
above-listed propositions be held by all as condemned and proscribed.

Pope authorizes granting of indulgences for Pauline year events

VATICAN CITY (CNS) -- Catholics who participate in events connected with the 2008-2009 jubilee year of St. Paul can
receive a special indulgence, the Vatican said.

Pope Benedict XVI authorized the granting of a plenary, or full, indulgence in order to highlight the Pauline year and open
the way to the "interior purification" of the faithful during its celebration, a May 10 Vatican decree said.

The decree was signed by U.S. Cardinal J. Francis Stafford, head of the Vatican tribunal that deals with indulgences and
with matters related to the sacrament of penance.

An indulgence is a remission of the temporal punishment a person is due for sins that have been forgiven.

Pope Benedict established the Pauline year to run from June 28, 2008, to June 29, 2009, to mark the approximately
2,000th anniversary of the saint's birth.

The plenary indulgence is being offered to pilgrims who come to Rome, to Catholics who participate in local events
connected to the jubilee year, and to those who may be too ill or otherwise prevented from physical participation.

It can be granted on behalf of the individual petitioner or on behalf of departed souls.

Cardinal Stafford said conditions for the special Pauline year indulgence include the normal requirements set by the
church for all plenary indulgences: that the person goes to confession, receives the Eucharist and prays for the intentions

of the pope.

The decree explained in detail some specific requirements for the plenary indulgence:

-- Those visiting the Basilica of St. Paul Outside the Walls in Rome in the form of a pilgrimage must offer personal prayers
before the Altar of the Most Blessed Sacrament; they must also recite the Our Father and the Creed in front of the Altar of
the Confession, adding invocations to honor Mary and St. Paul.

-- The Catholic faithful in any local church can obtain the indulgence by participating with devotion in a liturgy or other
public event dedicated to St. Paul -- in any sacred place on the opening and closing days of the jubilee year, and on other
days in places designated by the local bishop.

-- Catholics impeded by sickness or other serious cause, as long as they have the intention of fulfilling the other conditions
as soon as possible, can obtain a plenary indulgence by joining spiritually in a jubilee celebration in honor of St. Paul and
offering their prayers and suffering for Christian unity.

The decree said individuals can obtain more than one plenary indulgence during the jubilee year, but not more than one
per day.
