1. What is curriculum? Why do we need to change it?
Curriculum is a standard-based sequence of planned experiences where
students practice an achieve proficiency in content an applied learning skills.
Curriculum is the central guide for all educators as to what is essential for the
teaching-learning process, which enables students to access to rigorous academic
experiences. A curriculum is considered to be the “heart” of any learning institution
which means that schools or universities cannot exist without curriculum. With its
importance in formal education, curriculum has become dynamic process due to the
changes that occur in our society.

The need for changing the curriculum happens for some reasons. A curriculum
may be out-dated, or it is time for it to be looked at more closely in a scheduled
review process. It may not be as effective as shown by declining students’ progress
or success or the teacher may be dissatisfied with the content or wanted to
incorporate technology. While it is generally the responsibility of the teacher to adapt
the curriculum to the particular class/students that are being taught, having an
updated curriculum is paramount to success. It allows the teacher to use that
curriculum without having to research to find supplemental, up-to-date information.
Curriculum change is inevitable, necessary, and desirable. Curriculum should be
dynamic. Teachers should respond to the changes that occur in schools and in its
context. For instance, the traditional learning before is the face to face class but it
was change into distance learning and every school has different learning modality
which suits the needs of the learners and community during pandemic situation.
Societal development and knowledge revolution come so fast that the need to
address the changing condition requires new curriculum design.

2. Describe the different approaches about school curriculum.

There are three approaches to school curriculum such as curriculum as
content or body of knowledge, curriculum as a process, and curriculum as a
product. There are four ways on how to present curriculum content namely topical
approach, concept approach, thematic approach and modular approach. In Topical
approach content is based on knowledge and experience are included on the other
hand, concept approach has fewer topics in clusters around major and sub-
concepts and their interaction with relatedness being emphasized. The other
approach which is thematic approach is a combination of concepts that develops
conceptual structures and modular approach refers to the complete units of
instruction. There are six criteria in selecting content. The significance, validity,
utility, learnability, feasibility and interest comprise the criteria for content selection.
The basic principle of content can be summarized by an acronym of BASIC which
stands for Balance, Articulation, Sequence, Integration and Continuity.

In addition, the other approach in school curriculum is the Curriculum as a

process where in it is seen to be a scheme about the practice of teaching. The
process of teaching and learning becomes the central concern of the teacher in
order to emphasize critical thinking meaning-making and heads on, hands-on doing
and many others. As a process, curriculum links to the content while content
provides materials on what to teach, the process provides curriculum on how to
teach the content. When accomplished, the process will result to various curriculum
experiences to learners.

Furthermore, the product from the curriculum is a student equipped with

knowledge, skills and values to function effectively and efficiently. Curriculum
product is expressed in a form of outcomes which are referred to as the achieved
learning outcome.

If put into simple words the three approaches to school curriculum can be
presented this way, the curriculum content shows what the curriculum wants to
teach, while the curriculum process is the way that the content must be teach or
delivered by the teacher and as the end result we will have the curriculum product
as the learning outcome.

3. Describe briefly the role of Technology in Curriculum Application.

Education is said to be the gateway to global knowledge economy. The
quality of higher education is assessed through technology integration in order to
enhance performance and achievement or success. An appropriate and sustainable
technology must be utilize to electronically reach out to a larger number of students,
the public with quality educational resources, to address the issues of access to
education with equity and quality as well. Technology enables us to easily search,
store, retrieve, transmit, gather data, disseminate and have a reception of
knowledge easier, cheaper and faster. Technology completely changes the way the
curriculum is develop and implemented hence enhancing the quality of education.
Technology has an important part to play in the design and development of the
curriculum which gives the learners enjoyable, engaging, challenging and motivating
experiences of learning, increase success rate and improving learning results or
outcome. The utilization of technology in the teaching-learning process can easily
motivate the student engagement to auditory and visual learners as well. The
integration of simple technology such as power point presentation, simulated games
or digitized games, online platforms form assignments or homework and even online
grading system depending upon the online platform used will make a big difference
in the development of students’ potential and growth in the classroom setting.

4. Explain the connection of planning to implementing in curriculum development.

To analyze the curriculum and planning in the educational system, it is
essential to understand such circumstances, and the meaning of these processes.
Therefore, one must easily understand what is planning? What is Curriculum? It is
understood that planning is the instrument utilized to help the pedagogical process
of the teacher, in order to organize the methods and strategies related to the
contents of the school curriculum which enables elements for success in the
teaching-learning process.

In view of this, school planning is defended as a priority of group organization,

which involves all segments of education such as: teachers from all areas, students,
administrative and the surrounding community. Since isolated decisions cannot be
pointed out, therefore, it is necessary to discuss to set goals, goals, goals, values,
attitudes and deliberate the possible ordinary problems of the school.

Curriculum planning and assessment for learning have been shown to have a
significant impact on student outcomes over time. Learners need information
regarding how they are doing in order to improve. Parents and caters need
information through timely and effective reporting to better support learners' needs.

If the teachers have with them the lesson plan as their bible, Curriculum
Planning or Plan serves as the backbone in implementing the curriculum without
creating a strong foundation or plan for a curriculum eventually implementation will
not be as successful as what it perceives to happen. Making a curriculum plan which
suits the needs of the existing educational system is a must in implementing an
excellent curriculum which caters the existing needs of the society as well as the
community.
