WHAT IS SYNDICATION?

Content syndication is the practice of leasing the right of a show/program to


multiple television stations/ radio stations, streaming platforms or website.

COMMISSIONING
WHAT IS COMMISSIONING?

Commissioning is the process in which broadcasters select content ideas


and outsource content production to independent production houses. The
process can be different from broadcaster to broadcaster but it includes these
major steps:
• Receive pitches from from production houses and decide which project is
suitable for the channels and potential to get made.
• Greenlight the project, provide fund and control the financial aspects of the
project.
• Oversee production process, timeline and delivery.
WHAT IS COMMISSIONING?

Commissioner/Commissioning editor: is the person with specialized skills


assigned to select program ideas and manage commissioning process.
• In big TV networks or streaming services, where they usually commission a
wide range of genres, there are commissioners for each genre, for example:
Drama commissioner, comedy commissioner, kid programs commissioner…
• Commissioners need to have guidelines for production houses to prepare the
pitches.
• Commissioner also collaborate with programming team/channel director for
telecast timeline and performance report.

In-house production means the Radio station, TV channels, Streaming platforms


organize production on their own or from their own production company.

Certain amount of in-house production is required for Radio station and public
broadcasters to make sure it can serve public service and inform the publich
(through news programs, weather forecast to documentary….)
