1 GENERAL
1.1 Purposes
This Method Statement formalizes the requirements for the Installation of Cable Trays, Ladders, and Trunking
System. The specifications, procedures, and guidelines contained in this Method Statement specify the technical
requirements to be followed and also act as a reference to clearly establish defined standards for work
assessment. Moreover, this document shall provide guidelines to check that specified materials are installed and
agreed procedures are implemented during the execution of work and to define the responsibilities for
controlling the execution.
1.2 Scope
The Trunking System as per the requirements of contract specifications, and codes, standards of the project titled
as under: construction of temporary facilities (EACOP) Project at MST.scope of this Method Statement is to
describe the sequence of activities involved in Installation of Cable Trays, Ladders and

For an effective Cable Management at the project site, cable Ladders, cable trays, and trunking systems are
applicable to meet the load requirements. These shall be used for all types HV/LV/MV/ELV cables containment
includes but not limited to main cables routed to branch cables for main circuits, LV cabling inside Tunnel, Cables
routed to, buildings, substations, control, and power cables, fire detection and alarm system, 415V switchgear,
switchgear and control gear, panels, all distribution boards, public address system, etc.

5 RESPONSIBILITY
The Construction Manager
The Construction Manager will be responsible for ensuring that all construction activities to be performed
by experienced employees in a manner acceptable to Project Specifications and Procedure
Requirement.
Supervisor/Site Engineer
Close monitoring the site team to keep their work safe and productive working.
Superintendent (SI)
Look ahead and plan with CM to allocate manpower, machine equipment and tools.
The QA/QC Manager is responsible for provision of trained and competent personnel to monitor and
assist with compliance by construction personnel with approved Project
QA/QC procedures.
Control the work of the site team to ensure that it is in accordance with the Project specification and work
safe.
QA/QC Engineer
Monitor and ensure all construction activities are within standard and specifications

will be familiar with intrinsic hazards of the construction equipment being used.
The HSE Manager shall ensure that a JSEA is conducted for all activities and specified Health, Safety and
Environment rules and regulations are enforced with regard to the Project and all activities shall be
conformed to Tanzania Law, Regulation and EIA report
Safety Supervisor
Monitoring each activity based on JSA for the activity submitted along with work permit.
Also, during activities safety supervises should work close to ensure all safety precautions are followed
and maintained.
Will be responsible for assisting his superiors during all construction work-related activities following HSE
6 WORK SEQUENCES
6.1 Survey Work
Before starting any Electrical Installation, survey team will check all the area where the installation should be
done like dormitory, office, workshop so as to access the risk and hazardous of the working environment.
6.2 Preparation
The main Contractor shall ensure that all gate passes, permits, tools, materials for safety precautions, manpower,
and equipment are available before commencement of work. The Site Team shall make sure that access roads are
always clear from any obstruction and site is always accessible.
6.3 Plan

6.4 Materials
All materials shall comply with the specifications regarding quality, dimensions, strength, etc. Samples will be
submitted for the approval of the Engineer. Making sure all material as per consultant’s approval before any
installations.

All relevant documentation approved shop drawings, and material applicable to a particular section of
works will be checked by Site Engineer prior to commencement of work.
Ensure that Material received is in compliance with the project specifications and is approved.
Ensure that all required materials and accessories are delivered, inspected, and approved by the
Consultant and are readily available at the site to carry out the work and coordinated with related to civil
contractor.
The Site Engineer/Site Supervisor will give necessary instructions to tradesmen (Electrical) and provide
necessary approved construction/shop drawings.
The Site Engineer/Site Foreman will check that proper tools and equipment are available to carry out the
work and are in compliance with contract specifications. The Site Engineer will explain his/her team
about HSE precautions to be observed.
The Site Engineer/Foreman ensures the cleanliness of the area.
7.3 Installation
The cables shall be routed on the cable ladder and tray as far as is practicable. Cable containment system includes
ducts, trays, supports, ladder, road crossing ducts, and associated fittings/supports. In a particular installation of
Cable trays/ladders and cable trunking systems are discussed below.

Prior to start any installation of Trays & Ladders, a complete coordination will be carried out with other
mechanical services to avoid any interference or interrupted for the service.
Cable Ladders, cable trays, and their supports should be strong enough to meet the load requirements of
the cable management system including cables and any future cable additions any other additional loads
applied to the system.
Types and sizes of cable tray and ladder supports shall be as per approved shop drawings and project
specifications.
When considering the installation of the cable support system it is imperative to avoid the cutting or
drilling of the structural building members without the approval of the team leader.

The fitting of trays & ladders such as tees, bends & crossings will be connected with radial to permit cable-
bending standards
Minimum clearance in horizontal angle between tray and building wall shall be 300mm.
Earthing jumpers will be installed on trays & ladders between the lengths and where required to ensure
effective electrical continuity irrespective of whether a separate protective earth conductor is required or
not

Copper earth links shall be installed at every joints to maintain continuity throughout the installation
Ensure the installations of tray/ladder are neat, in straight line for good aesthetic look. Trim the extra
projected supports.
All sharp edges and burrs shall be cleaned for pulling of cables.
Inspection shall be offered for QC verification.

9 QUALITY
A team of quality assurance (QA) will be on site to make sure that final deliverable meets the standards and
guidelines set.
10 SAFETY
Protection and safety equipment, all members will be issued with the following PPE,
Hard hat
Safety Glass
Safety gloves
Safety shoes
Dust Mask
Additional protection equipment will be issued when and additional require, according to the
opinion of HSE.
Emergency case
First Aid Kit set will be provided on site for light injuries.
