boundary to take one run. To take 2 runs hit a bit far from boundary

you catch the momentum it will be hard for the team to stop you or get
you out.
 If you feel like you can get out at any time to a tough spell, it is normal to
anyone. all you have to think is watch the ball. Think that there is only a
ball and you on the ground, not even the bowler. see the ball and wait for
as long as you can, see and meet the ball under your eyes. its very

match with a right coach you should look to score runs. Believe that you
have the ability to do this.
 You should be ready, prepared to grab an opportunity at anytime for that
you need to practice well in the nets.
 when you go to the crease feel like you are the best.
 play to win every match. But when you lose don't let loss hurt your
mind. It's ok to lose.
 Putting price on your wicket means valuing your wicket, u care about
your wicket and your own performance. Bat as long as you can.
 Nutrition, discipline, gym work, mental health should be taken care of to
prolong your career and also you should have love to the game and urge
to play more.
 It is important to not repeat mistakes again and again. It will not let your
skill grow better.
 There are no shortcuts in life in anything you do.
 If you keep cutting corners, you will end up in circles.
 Be genuine and truthful to yourself.
 Don't grip the bat too tightly or else you will end up pushing the ball in air
and it will be difficult to use wrist for some shots like flick, cut etc.
 on bouncy wickets, leg stump guard is normally used for initial
movement.
 in Indian conditions leg stump is good. there is not much initial
movement.
 for off spinners when ball is turning a lot we should cover our off stump to
cover the line.
 for leg spinners leg stump guard is good. if it get caught in slip means it
was a good delivery.
 trigger movement helps to play the ball late, under the eyes.
 in trigger movement you should go a little inside the crease and a bit
across with a low body position.
 you are early on the shot you hit it up in the air and ending up being
caught out. it will become unpredictable to judge the bounce and the
swing.
 allow the ball to come under your eyes.
 to settle your eyes you can practice with stumps in the nets for 5-10
minutes. it will let you see your balance. you should try playing it late
under the eyes.
 keep your feet close. this will help you in seeing the balance of your hips.
hit the ball with power without moving the leg. remember to keep your
head straight and allow the ball to come under your eyes.
 be aware of your surroundings and conditions. see what is the direction

 straight drive should be played late under the eyes, towards the bowler,
shoulder aligned to the bowler.
 for off drive dip your shoulder a little bit in the ball, play late under the
eyes, played towards mid off region.
 for on drive body posture remains almost similar with straight drive only
difference is you keep your head upright, play it as late as possible
towards the mid on region.
 you should lead with shoulder and head, the legs will follow.
 in off drive your shoulder goes to the ball, front foot nearly in the line of
off stump, head should be still in one line, play the ball under the eyes.
play the chick drive if you are not quite on the bal. it is like defence with
powerful hands. played with full face of the bat
 in on drives you have to open your body a bit much. hips get square .
don't let your backfoot come ahead of the front foot. keep your backfoot
grounded . play with full face of the bat. front shoulder should be towards
the ball. don't over hit.
 for straight drive take a short stride so that you meet the ball under the
eyes. it will let you stay more balanced. allow the ball to come and see if
it swings, it will be easy to play swing with a short stride. front shoulder
should go towards the ball. hit it towards the bowler. don't over hit it. you
may end up giving catching practice to the bowler. keep the back foot
grounded. play with full face of the bat.
 Leg glance is a shot played with the help of wrist. head should be still
and upright. don't over hit it. good player of flick is Virat Kohli. uses his
wrist to do the job. Balance should be perfect. not to take a big stride.
head and shoulders should go to the ball. use the pace of the ball and
don't over hit it. bat should be angled at contact to deflect the ball. keep
back foot grounded.
 square drive is a shot played with the help of wrist. head should be still
and upright. head and shoulders should go to the ball. dip the shoulder
towards the pitch of the ball. keep your front foot on off stump. not too
across. it is hit with a little cross batted bat. play the shot under your
eyes so it does not go in air.
5. Virender Sehwag (Cricuru)
 Sleep Sufficient. Take adequate rest. Insufficient rest can lead to bad
performance. Sleep on time, wake up at time.
 Do things at time.
 Do hard work, without hard work you can’t become anything.
 Everyone has to struggle to become something.
 Eat healthy food.
 Perform when you get an opportunity.
 Talk with coaches, selectors
 Talk with umpires and opponents while in a match, but don’t get
distracted. Try to stay relaxed and don’t take pressure.
 Dont try to copy anyone else. Be yourself.
 Dont try and play too much aggressive or too much defensive because
both are harmful, when you are too much aggressive you will throw your
wicket faster, if you play too much defensive and caring for your wicket
then if you play for long time runs will stop coming and your team will
lose, then you might be dropped or get scolding from seniors or the
coaches.
 If you want to earn respect and place in any good team then you have to
make hundreds and big scores in difficult conditions, which cannot come
without patience.
 Most big scores in limited over match are scored by openers and 1 down
batsman.
 Attack part timers. Dont miss any opportunity for runs, look for singles
and doubles too.
 While batting show that you are the boss, till the time you are on the
crease the match is in your hand.
 Scare the opponents by your past performance.
 Practice according to the situation you are going to play in match. Adapt
to any situation you play in.
 Convert your good start into big ones. After you get set, let the bowlers
give their sweat and blood to get your wicket, don’t give them your wicket
easily as you are set and you can make more run than the new batsman
coming in.
 Have a mindset to play all the overs of the game and stay not out but
while scoring runs.
 if you stay on crease for a bit long you start middling the ball. be on the
crease as long as you can
 Enjoy every ball that hits your bat.
 Choose the loose bowlers to get runs.
 Respect good bowlers
 Dont miss scoring opportunities.
 Play on Merit of the ball
 Dont keep 100 as your target, try and convert 100 into 150 and 150 to
200.
 After your hundred, gear up as your individual score is very good so then
play for the team and try and play faster but don’t take risk as the new
batsman which will come in place of you will take some balls to get set
and your teams run rate might decrease.
 How to pace an inning? Keep rotating strike to release pressure. After
getting set look for some boundaries and more singles and doubles. Play
Safe. Target loose balls. Target bad bowlers.
 How to chase? Remember the required run rate don’t let it become too
much. Take some time to get set in starting. Pace your inning a bit later.
Maintain the run rate. Dont take risk. Be like the boss. Make sure you
control the game. Take calculated risk. Make small targets for yourself.
 Never be over confident or be arrogant because you might lose a match
that you could have won due to your arrogance and over confidence.
 You should learn to switch on and off during the match. Switch off after
every delivery for 10 seconds, Switch on and play next delivery with full
grit and concentration.
 Dont throw your wicket after a long inning because of tiredness, wait for
drinks break, ask umpire for break.
 Utilize breaks and don’t be serious or be in pressure while the break is
going on, talk something else other than cricket, you might joke or tell
some story or motivate your partner.
 Dont be feared to get out because everyone gets out, there is some or
the other day on which you might not perform but don’t forget your good
days in your bad days and don’t forget your bad days in good days.
 If you have a fear to get hit while batting then you can’t become
successful because till the time you don’t remove your fear and play
fearlessly you can’t play good. After you get hit one time your fear gets
lesser, so it’s better the earlier you get hit and your fear goes away. You
might set limitations.
 Be mentally strong. Choose the shots to play at what time select them
wisely, don’t take big risks.
 Change your mindset according to the pitch.
 Respect new ball and the pitch.
 You should have positive body language. Chest out, shoulders up,
looking to dominate. You opposition mostly guesses your game by your
body language, show them that the boss has come to bat and no one
can get my wicket but don’t be over confident and play risky shots.
 Stay aware
 If fielding team is sledging and talking a lot don’t reply and reply with your
bat when runs start flowing they will automatically stop chirping. And then
you will be on the top. Never get distracted from sledging. Never go
according to the opposition. Play according to yourself.
 Never give up.
 Look in the eyes of the opposition in some attitude and show that you are
dominating.
 Never have bad thinking for your team mate and don’t be jealous of
anyone and be friends. Try to play with team spirit.
 Help your team mates.
 Improve your fitness to avoid injuries.
 Dont take advice which is wrong, every time before taking advice judge is
it good for me, what is the benefit of me or team in the advice, etc.
 Take criticism positively and it should be a motivator to you for improving
your mistake.
 If some opinion is not good for you then listen from one ear and remove it
from another and move forward.
 Dont play cricket for money and fame, play because you enjoy it and you
want to represent your country.
 Follow the process, the results will automatically follow.
 Have friendship with umpire so that he doesn’t give you wrong out and
can give decisions in your favour when in confusion.
 Accept poor umpiring decision with good spirit as umpires are also
humans and them will also commit mistake and don’t fight with them as
they will have enmity with you and then in next matches he will surely
give you wrong decisions.
 Always play with sportsman spirit, if you are caught behind and umpire
gives not out then walk off with honesty because it is good sportsman
spirit.
 Be in the present. Play on the merit of the ball. Play with calm mind.
Always think about next ball and forget the past. Think Positive.
 Never be over confident.
 Handle failure and success in same way, don’t get on cloud9 after good
performance as 1 bad performance can bring you back on ground. When
you fail, practice hard so that you can overcome your mistake and
succeed again.
 Make the most of every opportunity.
 If you lose an opportunity you will have to bear its consequences.
 Learn from failures.
 Accept loses and wins.
 Always see the mistake you made even after scoring big or after winning.
 Give more than 100% on field.
 Dont get distracted from sledging.
 If sledging goes personally then report to umpires.
 Take sledging positively.
 Social media is good for us and bad too. Use it for your benefit. It is
Important too. Learn from social media.
 Play street cricket but play with correct technique even if you are losing.
Use your smartness and use it in professional matches too. You learn to
handle failure.
 Never give up. There is no shortcut to hard work. DO hard work. Ask
yourself after every match that if you gave your 100% or not, try and be
better version of yourself than yesterday.
 While you load your bat for your shot it is called the back lift. While back
lifting ensure your bat comes from off stump not more than that and not
less than middle stump. The higher you back lift, the more power will be
converted in the shot. Get high back lift for attacking shots and get low
back lift for defensive shots.
 We require a trigger movement to tell our body that you have to react
quickly so get ready, so the trigger movement makes momentum of the
body so that we can hit the ball. Our trigger movement should take place
when the bowler has jumped and is going to deliver the ball. Dont take
big trigger movement as it will take time and you won’t be able to face a
fast delivery. Keep your head still.
 To improve your bat swing, take 2 bats and and play some shots with
high back lift and play with power, this will improve your backlift because
when you lift 1 bat then you will find it lighter and it will be easier to swing
the bat for you.
 Drive the ball on full length. Drive with timing and power. Drive by
transferring weight on ball. Play with full face of the bat. The front foot
should be pointing near the direction of the ball and beside the ball when
connecting the ball. Head should be over the knee while hitting. Elbow
should be locked. Back lift should be high.
 While punching the ball remember to punch on a pacer, good or full
length ball, play with full face of the bat, high back lift, good bat swing,
body weight transfer ahead.
 While hitting the flick shot, hit it to a full length ball which pitches on
middle and leg stump and play it under your eyes, front foot stride should
not be too long, play almost like a defence but roll your wrist at the last
moment of contact so that the ball goes near mid wicket and square leg.
 While defending the ball your hands should be soft so that if you edge
the ball, the ball won’t carry to the slips and if you play with soft hands
less chances of getting caught by close fielders is there. Dont defend a
loose ball. Defend ball to save wicket.
 When doing a backfoot punch the ball should be short pitch and while
hitting make sure your elbows are locked, play with full face of the bat,
play with timing and power, play it in gaps for a four or singles and
doubles.
 When playing the backfoot flick play like a defence off backfoot on leg
side and then turn your wrist and guide the ball between fine leg and
square leg.
 When play the front foot flick, play like a front foot defence on leg side
and then turn your wrist and guide the ball between fine leg and square
leg.
 Play cut shots according to the field, make contact of the ball with the bat
late when you want it to go towards third man, make contact of the ball
with the bat early when you want it to go towards covers, point or mid off.
 Play cut shot in gaps to get runs.
 Play in air if all other ways are blocked by fielders.
 When playing the upper cut try to play it over the keeper or slips head
and it should not be caught by any fielder or keeper or slips. Play it
against a fast bowler.
 To hit shot above cover or mid wicket use your bottom hand and hit with
full power over covers or mid wicket and don’t transfer weight too much
on front foot try and transfer more weight on backfoot as it will get
elevation in the shot.
 When playing wide Yorker, open the face the bat to guide the ball to
extra covers to third man.
 When playing in seaming and swinging condition play the ball close to
the body, play with patience, take your stance from a bit ahead of the
crease. Try and play on middle stump guard. Dont miss shot hitting
opportunity. Try not to drive the ball too much. Rotate your strike. Dont let
the bowler set a trap for you.
 Dont play flick to leg cutters, outswing.
 On bouncy pitches be aware of ball on front foot because that might take
your wicket. Leave the bouncers of ball which are outside off stump to
avoid being caught a slips. Play with good concentration.
 When ball is reverse swinging it might be old and will be swinging late.
We should not play much cross batted shots. Target short pitched balls
as the swing won’t matter much.
 Mostly the bowlers with slinging action will get less bounce so look to
play them more on front foot.
 Watch the ball carefully. Stay low while batting.
 If a bowlers sets an off side trap by making the field as 6:3 or 7:2 then
you have to take middle stump guard and instead of your small shuffle as
trigger movement take a big shuffle outside off stump and try to hit more
shot on leg side but play according to the merit of the ball.
 If there is a leg side trap set for you then try to play from leg stump and
then play inside out from over covers or down the ground in the gaps or
step out towards the leg stump and then hit a shot. Play according to the
merit of the ball.
 When hitting the sweep shot, the bat swing should be high and should
come from high to low position to keep the ball on the ground. When we
are hitting sweep at that time our knees should be bent and back knee
should be touched to the ground, you should have your body weight
transferred ahead on the ball and don’t remove eyes from the ball until
the shot is completed. We hit seep to disturb the bowler’s line length.
 When hitting the slog sweep shot, the bat swing should be high and
should come from low to high position to keep the ball on the ground.
When we are hitting slog sweep at that time our knees should be bent
and back knee should be touched to the ground, you should have your
body weight transferred ahead on the ball, but not as much as the
grounded sweep and don’t remove eyes from the ball until the shot is
completed. We hit seep to disturb the bowler’s line length and get quick
runs from aerial shots.
 When playing the reverse sweep, judge the line and length early and
then switch the bat’s side and change the grip and then take a high bat
swing and bat should come from high to low position. Play reverse
sweep mostly on a ball outside off stump line bowled by spinner. To play
aerial reverse sweep bat should come from low to high position.
 When playing spinner watch the bowlers hand careful, watch the
revolutions of the ball, and watch the spin of the ball. When you are a
non striker end try to see what variations the bowler is bowling.
 When a spinner bowls his first over most likely he will bowl 2-3 loose ball,
take advantage of it and hit your shots and get runs.
 If the ball of off spinner is skidding more than spinning then use the pace
and play late cut paddle sweep, ramp shot, etc.
 Play attacking but grounded when you want the field to open up so that
you can take singles and doubles. When you attack then the opposition
captain thinks that let them take 1 run on every ball instead of hitting so
many fours. After the field is open you can hit to the fielder in the and
take a single or a double.
 You might get loose balls from the best spinners due to the climate or the
pitch.
 You can pad the ball of leg spinner which are pitching outside leg stump
and might take your bowled.
 Play sweep if bowler is very consistent on a spot.
 Use your feet and step out on flighted balls.
 Judge the variations fast.
 When you are playing on a turning track, play with the spin, don’t risk
your wicket, if you are trying to attack then hit with the spin and with the
wing, don’t hit opposite to the wind direction. Try and rotate strike more
than looking for boundaries.
 Play in the line of the ball.
 Dont leave any bat pad gap while bating on a turning wicket.
 If a leg spinner is bowling on the rough on the leg side, try and pad him
more than playing. Play with covering your leg stump. Even if the rough
is near the front foot, you can cover the wickets on backfoot. Beware of
change of spot of bowling, when the bowler bowls away from the rough
make runs, play in gaps.
 When an off spinner is bowling on the rough on off side try to play near
the rough by stepping out or play with patience and watch the ball very
nicely.
 When you face any mystery spinner, see the hand while bowler is
delivering the ball, watch the revolution of the ball, watch the variations
the bowlers has from non strikers end too.
 Play every shot under your eyes and watch the ball till the end.
 The best way to predict the line length of the bowler is to see the field,
the bowlers will most likely bowl according to the field.
 Try and play slower ones with soft hands and think of taking singles and
doubles more than going for boundary as it can be risky.
 How to choose the correct ball to score runs?
You can hit shots on loose balls. Target the part timer, tired bowler,
nervous bowler, angry bowler, etc. Try to hit shots with the wind and on
the merit of the ball. Be patient for bad balls. Take singles and doubles if
you are not able to get boundaries. Play with the bowlers mind and try
and disturb him and his line length by distracting him.
 Before being ready to play the ball, first see the field and think the places
where gaps are there. Then when the bowler bowls the ball, hit it in the
gaps. Try and improvise your shots to hit in gaps.
 Rotate strike to release pressure and avoid getting trapped by the bowler
by staying on the crease and playing all 6 deliveries of the same bowler.
Try and rotate strike to get runs and to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Rotating strike is even more important than hitting boundaries.

 Staying disciplined from an early age is very important to become

anything successful. You have to keep a schedule of what you should do.
You have to set your own time table. Dont get distracted.
 Enjoy the game. Dont take pressure.
 Most of the teams will be willing to take all rounders other than taking
only batsman or only bowler because the all rounder will perform in both
and contribute too.
 To become all rounder you have to have your fielding, batting and
bowling all well. Focus on all three of the aspects.
 Always look to improve. Even if you become the greatest player, then
also there might be flaws in your batting or bowling or fielding
 Keep your batting, bowling and fielding balanced.
 Give time to every drill because it won’t fit in your muscles after 100-200
drills it will take nearly 1000 or more repetitions to fit in your muscles,
some drills might take even more repetitions.
 Back your strength. If you are good in bowling flat ones don’t bowl
flighted ones.
 Just listen to yourself while you are in a match. Dont try to follow anyone.
Dont listen to anyone outside.
 Dont try to copy anyone or change just because someone else is
changing.
 Play your natural game.
 If runs are coming automatically from the start don’t miss them or don’t
say to yourself to first get set because you don’t know that will you
connect the balls later.
 Give equal time to sports and studies. Because if you don’t become a
sportsman you have the option to become doctor/engineer/businessman.
But there is also way in sports so getting selected in Indian team is not
impossible, but it has fierce competition for spot.
 Dont follow anyone else.
 Dont set too big goals. Make small goals like to play district then play
state then nationally and after that internationally.
 Dont follow anyone else’s style to bat or bowl. Play with your own style.
 You should play with team spirit. Dont point out on anyone after losing
because he will really feel bad. Dont be jealous on anyone’s performance
and don’t think that you are the only one who performs in your team. If
some misfiled is done or a catch is dropped don’t demotivate them try to
encourage them by saying “ it happens by everyone even the best fielder
did it in his childhood”, because they are already down because they
have dropped a catch and will feel bad if someone else points it out.
 Enjoy everyone’s success.
 If someone from outside is giving pressure take his words and after that it
is your decision if you want to implement it or discard it. Mostly the
people outside don’t know how the pitch is and say some useless things
so discard those ones. Most of the advice during the match are
unnecessary. And you know your strength and how the pitch is behaving
so you have to chose what to do, not the coach or the audience or
anyone else from outside.
 You should learn to adapt to different formats of the game fast because
sometimes it happens that there is a 2days match and the next day after
the 2day match there is a t20. In these kind of situations you need to
adapt fast from slow to fast game.
 Dont get demotivated when you get dropped from a team or don’t get
selected for a team. Learn what mistakes what you are doing and
improve on them. Chose the right person from whom you can take
advice.
 Fame also gets distractions. When you get fame you get lot of sponsors,
request to be in an advertisement and then you forget your priority which
is cricket, and this destroys you.
 When you get fame you should not be very happy and celebrate too
much because after fame you might get a bad phase of performance.
 Give your best to become anything.
 Your mindset should not change much with fame coming.
 You should grab all opportunities you get.
 If you meet any great person you should ask him about his mindset.
 You should not take any team lightly even if you know it is a very bad
team.
 Play every team with the same mindset.
 Dont bring too many changes together.
 You should analyze a batsman before the match (in higher level cricket)
to get his wicket easily. You should also analyze bowlers to not get
trapped in their variations or traps set by them. This is called reading the
batsman. You can also read the batsman during the match.
 Batting towards the end you should hit hard without getting set if you
have just come in. You can hit grounded or aerial as per your
convenience. You have to score quickly in the end.
 To hit a six you need to have timing, high bat swing and you have to
middle the ball and require some strength too.
 If you get hit on a good ball bowled by you that means that it was a good
ball and the batsman’s short was even better. Go harder the next ball.
The next ball should be your best ball so that you can say to the batsman
“Even I am in the game and I will make you feel my presence. Beware.”
 If you get hit on a bad bowl change the strategy and try to bowl better
ones and get the batsman out as soon as possible.
 When one of the batsmen is reading you well try and give strike another
one and bowl more dot balls or get out.
 When your team has set a big target then you don’t think of getting
wickets instead you think of getting dots or singles but not doubles,
triples and boundaries.
 When you are bowling in a low scoring match then you try to get the
batsman out and try to tempt them.
 When you are bowling with the new ball, if the ball isn’t spinning then
don’t think to spin it, think to bowl it like normal off spin which skids on.
You can bowl cross seam if it is not easy to grip the ball.
 When you are bowling on a flat track then try to set a trap for the
batsman. Bowl some straight deliveries and then turn 1 because the
batsman is not expecting it and you bowl it and get him out in surprise.

*What makes a good opening batsman?*

The opening batters or openers are the batters who bat first in the innings (no. 1 and
2). This position is very important as the openers need to get the innings off to a good
start. The early fall of wickets can have a serious psychological impact on the rest of
the team, affecting their performance with the bat. The opening batters also get the
first experience of the pitch and conditions and must be able to adjust to them quickly.
Due to this, they are able to inform other batters of the state of the pitch as well.

Most importantly, the opening batters must face a new ball, which is hard and has a
pronounced seam. This makes it more liable to travel fast, bounce high, seam around
(i.e., bounce unpredictably off the seam) and swing (i.e., deviate sideways when
travelling through the air). These early conditions favour the bowling team, so the
opening batters must have considerable patience, a sound technique and be good
defensively. As the ball gets older, its condition starts to favour the batting team.
Therefore, the openers will ideally stay at the crease long enough to protect the batters
further down the order.

In first-class cricket, the rate at which the openers score runs is not as important as
"taking the shine off" the new ball. This is the process of softening and roughening the
cricket ball, whose condition tends to degrade the longer it is in play. By occupying the
crease for a long time and taking the shine off the ball, the openers themselves are
able to score more freely later on. This also makes batting easier for the rest of the
order. Because of the defensive technique required early on, openers are sometimes
less fluent stroke-players than the specialist batters who follow.

In limited overs cricket, the role of opening batter is slightly different. In this type of
cricket a high run rate is a necessity. Also, in the early 1990s, fielding restrictions were
introduced in the early overs of the game, limiting the fielding side to only two players
on the boundary. To start the innings effectively and take advantage of the fielding
restrictions, it became beneficial to have an aggressive batter opening the innings.

*What makes a good top order batsman?*

The top order is defined as the batters batting at positions 1, 2, and 3. The batters who
bat at positions 3, 4 and 5 in the order are sometimes the most technically proficient
batters with the best stroke play. As they are likely to face an older ball that is easier to
score runs against, they must aim to make a large number of runs. They may be
exposed to the new ball if an opener loses his wicket early on and so must be
equipped to deal with this scenario as well. Top and middle order batters must also be
adaptable as they may be required to attack, consolidate or defend according to the
needs of the team as the match situation develops. The world's most prolific and best
recognised batters are generally found in the top order; the 'fab four' of Virat Kohli,
Steve Smith, Kane Williamson and Joe Root, all considered the foremost batters of
their generation, bat at 3 or 4.
*What makes a good middle order batsman?*

The middle order is typically defined as the batters batting at positions 4, 5, 6 and 7. It
usually consists of versatile batters who must continue to build an innings. The middle
order batter is likely to be facing a much older ball bowled by a spin bowler and
defensive technique is necessary to overcome this type of attack, but they are often
also fleet-footed players who attack slow bowling by charging down the pitch. The
middle order players must also be adept at making runs when playing with the poor
quality batters in the lower order. This requires the ability to manipulate the strike so
that the tail-enders are shielded from the more potent bowlers.

Players who are designated as an all-rounder often bat in the middle order (e.g.
Garfield Sobers usually batted at number 6;[8] by contrast, W. G. Grace always
opened the innings[9]). wicket-keepers generally bat in the middle order as well, often
at number 6 or 7 (e.g. Adam Gilchrist throughout his Test career usually batted at
number 7;[10] however he predominantly opened the batting in limited-overs
cricket[11][12]). One reason for placing all-rounders and wicket-keepers in the middle-
order even though they may be more skilled than those who batted above them was
because such players would be tired after bowling or keeping wicket during the
preceding innings. Another reason, with the trend of wicket-keepers opening the
innings in limited-over cricket, batters at positions 6, 7 and 8 tend to be at the crease
when the second new ball is due, so they can function just like an opener and know
how to wear out the new ball, or play aggressively to score quick runs to chase victory
or to build the innings quickly towards a declaration. It is also plausible to see
substitute wicket-keepers batting at number 5 or 6.

In One Day International cricket, middle order batters are generally able to change
their game depending on the conditions. If their team loses wickets early, they must be
able to play a long careful innings. Conversely, if they are not required to bat until later
in the game, they must be able to attempt to score quickly, often attempting to hit
many fours or sixes, and if they only have a short period to bat, they are expected to
be innovative and able to settle after a short period. In run-chases they are required to
be good at calculating and minimising the risks needed to reach the target, by scoring
at close to the rate required. If they score more quickly than is required, they run the
risk of getting out and exposing the weaker, lower-order batters to the pressure
situation, but if they score too slowly, then they fall behind schedule and the pressure
again increases.
*Observation in ODI*

Take 1s and 2s very frequently, try and rotate strike on every ball after getting set

hit lose balls for 4

Place in gaps

Play on merit of ball

dont keep defending after getting set

if hitting shots, hit with full power so that they go for 4, have good bat swing

if balls are going in fielder hands, then play inside out in gaps or over the fielders.

Try to dominate by hitting shots all over the park

Try and keep scoreboard ticking in starting by 1s and 2s, after 35 overs target the tired
bowlers and score runs against lose balls.
