Alignments: Edit alignment geometry

You will modify alignments using different


techniques to address the Design Check
warnings.

Learning objectives:
The completed exercise
• Edit alignments graphically.
• Edit using the Alignment Layout Tools
toolbar and the Grid View vista.
• Modify the Alignment Station Control.

1. Open the /Iowa City 04_04/04 Design


Models/road design.dwg drawing.

2. Zoom to the Sycamore Heights alignment


and review the curve warnings.

3. Select the Sycamore Heights alignment.


Select the first curve circular grip to increase
the curve radius to remove the warning.

4. Select the first curve point of intersection
triangular grip, and drag out to create a near
perpendicular tangent to McCollister Blvd.

5. Select the circular grip on the last alignment


curve to increase the curve radius and
remove the warning.

6. On the Alignment Contextual tab > Modify


panel, click Geometry Editor to open the
Alignment Layout Tools toolbar.

7. Click the Delete Sub-entity button .


Delete the first curve, the second tangent,
and the second curve along the alignment.

8. Expand the Curve menu and select


Free Curve Fillet (Between two entities,
radius). Select the end of the first tangent
and the start of the second tangent.

Press Enter to accept LESSTHAN180.Type

600 for Radius and press Enter. Press Enter
again to finish.

9. Open the Alignment Grid View vista and


adjust the first curve radius to 400.

10. Close the Panorama and the Layout Tools


toolbar.

11. Zoom to the McCollister Blvd alignment and


review the warnings.

12. Select the McCollister Alignment. On the


Alignment Contextual tab > Modify panel,
click Geometry Editor to open the Alignment
Layout Tools toolbar.

13. Select Delete Sub-entity. Delete the tangent


near station 25+00 and the adjoining curve
to the east.

14. Expand the Curve menu and select Free


Curve Fillet (Between two entities, radius).
On the command line, select REVERSE
CURVE. Type 1500 for the curve radius and
press Enter. Press Enter again to finish.

15. Open the Alignment Grid View vista. On line


4, adjust the curve radius to 1500.

16. Close the Panorama and the Layout Tools


toolbar.

17. Grip-edit the start and end of Woodside
View alignment to terminate on adjacent
alignments, and then use the Nearest Object
Snap.

18. Open the McCollister Blvd Alignment


Properties dialog.

19. On the Station Control tab:


• Click the Pick Reference Point button
.
• Click the Endpoint of the existing
McCollister Blvd red centerline.
• Click OK.

20. Save and close the drawing.
