This Strategic Intervention Material is a project of the curriculum

Implementation Division particularly the Learning Resource

Management and Development Unit, Department of Education,

Schools Division Office of the Ifugao which is in response to the

implementation of k-12 Curriculum.

This Learning Material is a property of the Department of

Education-CID, Schools Division Office of Ifugao. It aims to improve

errors of subject-verb agreement. The competency used in this skill is
EN6G-Ii-3.9-compose clear and coherent sentences using appropriate
Grammatical Structures-subject-verb agreement in the present tense.
A singular subject takes a singular verb, whereas a plural subject
takes a plural verb.
Example: The girl cleans in the classroom.
The children rest for 5 minutes.
A Personal Pronoun (She, He, It) takes the singular form of verbs.
Example: She cooks spaghetti excellently.
A Personal Pronoun (We, They) takes the plural form of verbs.

Example: They go to school every day.

A Singular Indefinite Pronoun (Somebody, no one, any one,


anybody) takes a singular verb.
Example: No one stays at home.
A Plural Indefinite Pronoun (Many, All) takes a plural verb.
Example: Many cancel the trip to Baguio.
A collective noun (family, class, group) takes a singular verb when
the reference is to a group as a whole and a plural verb when the
reference is to a member of a group as single individuals.
Example: The class prepares for the picture taking.
The verb must always agree with the subject.
