01. FUTURE SIMPLE: WILL

We use future “will”:

- For spontaneous decisions, not planned before → I’ll bring you another fork!
- For predictions based on our opinion. Generally with expressions such as: “I
think…, Probably…, In my opinion…, I’m sure...”→ I’m sure you will do well in the
new job.
- Offering, promising or asking to do something → I’ll help you with your homework.
- True facts in the future → The winner will get a gold medal.

02. FUTURE “GOING TO”

We use future “going to” to talk about:

- Future plans which you have decided to do before speaking (non-spontaneous) → I’m
going to visit my parents next weekend.

- Predictions and future events based on evidence in the present → Our team is going to
win the match.

STRUCTURE: am/is/are +going to +verb (infinitive)


- AFFIRMATIVE
Subject + “to be” + going to + verb (infinitive)
→ You are going to read a book
- NEGATIVE
Subject + “to be” + not + going to + verb (infinitive)
→ You are not going to read a book
- QUESTIONS

We use future continuous to:

- Focus on the process during a future action → This afternoon, I’ll be working in the
central office.
- Formal offers → Will you be having a pint or half pint, sir?

Subject + will be + verb -ing
→ They will be dancing all day.
- NEGATIVE
Subject + won´t be + verb -ing

04. FUTURE PERFECT SIMPLE

We use future perfect simple:

- To refer to events that will happen at a very specific time and indicates the end of an
action at a point in the future → This time next year, I will have finished my next album.

- Often with time expressions, such as: A t … , for X years/months/weeks…, by the time…,
when… → When you arrive, I will not have finished my work.

05. FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS

We use future perfect continuous:

- To estimate an action’s duration at a specific time in the future → She will have been
singing for more than 30 years.
- Most often with time expressions, such as: for X hours/years…, By the time…, Next
year/month…, When… → When I finish this class, I will have been listening to my teacher
for 1 hour.
