Learning Body Systems

Objective K.1.a Identify major body parts (e.g., head, torso, arms, legs, hands, feet, muscles,
bones).

Complete this sentence by naming the technology tool and the creation activity:

In this activity, my students are going to use ABC Mouse to create what their body looks like to them. This

Activity.
1. Students will take out their devices and log into ABC Mouse.
2. I would have prewritten on the board in front of them the words of the body
parts we would be talking about.
3. I would play this video to get an assessment of how many students know
these basic body parts:

controlnum=1&cid=61779 (It is also a good ice breaker to get them thinking)
4. The students will then review this video:

5. On my overhead projector I would play this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1futfnUky38 (while this video is
playing, I would be standing in the front of my classroom doing the motions
of my body parts with Jack Hartman). Students without technology can be
provided a hard book like the one attached.
6. I will ask my students to complete the puzzle:
https://www.abcmouse.com/html5/puzzles/jigsaw?cid=6792 (I chose the
jigsaw puzzle instead of fill-in the word because I assumed my students can
not spell independently). The puzzle can be printed and cut out for students
without technology to complete.
7. Finally: I would allow students to appropriately draw a picture of them with
the correct number of body parts. While they are doing so, I will walk around
and observe the drawings. While doing this, I will increase the vocabulary by
identifying less obvious body parts not discussed such as torso or my bones.

have access to a computer, they can draw and color a picture of their body
on paper.
8. I have attached printables for students who do not have access to a
computer.
9. When work is completed, submit and put away your device.

For students without a computer: I can print out body activities. It also comes in both boy and girl as well as English and Spanish.
For more advanced learners: this can be assigned to the student instead of the jigsaw puzzle.
