Project (10S-A-1)
B.Arch 10th Semester
RTMNU, NAGPUR
Intent of the subject:
The project is the culmination of undergraduate studies and hence shall display the capability
of the candidate to conceive/formulate a design project with complexity and provide a solution,
aptly demonstrated through supporting research. The major area of study and research may
include advanced architectural understanding, contemporary design processes, urban design,
urban-infill, environmental design, conservation and heritage precincts, housing, etc.
culminating in the design of a built environment. Understanding of structural systems,
specialized details, universal design considerations, services, fire safety shall be an integral part
of the proposal. Preparation of presentation drawings, construction details schematic layout of
services. The report, various models, 3D walk-through would be part of the final submission.
The final project presentation shall include information that led to the final design, which may
comprise process sheets, pre-design study, case studies, data collection.

Figure 1.2:Types of Project focus

Students have the liberty to select the project type and area (refer to Figure 1.1.) of their
interests under any of the above-said categories as well as students shall have major Focus area
(refer to Figure 1.2.) And Student and Guide shall make sure that the selected Topic shall have
live case study available. Each student would be allotted a project guide under review panels,
who shall guide the students throughout the semester and help students to mould and execute
the project. There are stage wise mandatory requirements which students has to full fill on time
(refer Appendix -1 ) and Guide and Panel shall make sure that student is fulfilling the
requirements in stipulated time and if student fails to do so then necessary action will be taken
by the panel
Methodology:
 The project may have an independent methodology generated as per the project
demand, framed in coordination with the guide.
 All the premises should aspire to be an original and authenticated approach.
 All the Projects shall have Minimum one major focus area.
 All the projects should be enriched with sufficient literature study and live case studies,
along with surveys and investigations for a well-crafted design approach.
 Regular inputs are provided to students in three ways (refer to Figure 1.3.).

and external)

Interactions with the project guide
 Students shall be given the choice to select their own guides as per their comfort level.
However, the institute holds the right for guide allotment as per the project topic
expertise or availability of the guide.
 Each student shall be issued a ‘design card’ to keep a record of all the interactions with
a guide and to check self-progress.
 A guide shall monitor the student work and record the progress of the allotted group of
students.
 A guide can take necessary action if student is fail to meet stages in stipulated time.

Stage-wise panel reviews

 The panel composition is as shown in figure 1.4.
 Stage-wise panel reviews are composed of internal and external assessment.
 The internal assessment committee is composed of a group of guides (4-5 faculty) and
an external reviewer who will join the panel in review 3 and 4 which evaluates the work
of each student. Thus, the student is exposed to the view and comments of other faculty.
 The reviews should be conducted by each Panel as per the given schedule, and the panel
shall follow the time limit for each presentation.
 The external reviewers shall be appointed by the panel head to give rich inputs from
the field, which shall give a comprehensive approach to the project.
 Students are required to incorporate all the comments received in the panel.
 Panel co-ordinator shall take responsibility of stage wise completion of work by the
students and if student fails to do so then co coordinator should take necessary action
with other panel member’s consent which will help student to complete the work/ stage
 Each panel review is structured of a 4 stage evaluation, as shown in figure 1.5. Although
some projects may be given the liberty to alter the contents as per the demand of the
project (as recommended by the guide).

Workshop and expert lectures
 Workshops and expert lectures are infused within the semester for strengthening
concepts and ensuring the quality and content of the outcome.
 The guides/students have the liberty to suggest a topic on which external inputs seem
necessary.
 The expert lecture composes of topics such as how to select a project topic, how the
journey of the project is, etc. by renowned academicians and practitioners in the field.
 Workshops compose of writing workshops for providing input regarding report writing,
its structuring, content presentation, and referencing styles, etc. (tentatively planned in
the third week of February)
Report writing:
 Students shall be encouraged to write report and should be thus an integral part of the
stage-wise submission.
 Stage-wise report content is mentioned in Figure 1.4, which may be altered as per
project demand and as recommended by the guide.
 A guide shall provide comments/suggestions on the report.
 Students shall be encouraged to keep a note of all resources and cite relevant literature
to generate a list of useful references.
 There could be alterations and additions in the previously submitted report as the project
gradually develops. Thus, revisions of chapters shall be encouraged towards the end.
 Kindly refer-Abdellatif, Mahmoud, and Reham Abdellatif. "Successful thesis proposals in
architecture and urban planning." Archnet-IJAR: International Journal of Architectural
Research (2020).

Case study:
 Students shall be encouraged to perform live case studies during the allotted time (refer
to Table 1.1.).
 No regular classes/reviews will be held during this period, however, students are free
to keep discussing with the guides.
